Cup holder cover broken.. need some 411

Okay, so the piece that slides over the center console on my car is cracked on one of the grooves just behind the piece that you hold on to to move it back and forth.

My question(s) is, what exactly is this piece called? I've been looking on parts sites and I cannot find it to price it/buy it. Also, how the hell does it come out to be replaced?

Thanks for the information guys/gals.

You can't tell that it's cracked because it's totally closed.. just added a pic so you know what I'm talking about if I didn't explain it clearly enough.

Had this happen to me too...when you take apart the center console (check diy's) there are 4 screws that hold this together (and a couple of clips). I took it apart and tried jbweld to fix it, that cracked,
In the end I ended up having to spend the 55 bucks to buy a new one.

Thanks for the info.

Are the screws to take the cup holders out underneath the center console trim?

Cup Holder Cover broke

Can't answer your questions but I have the same problem. I went to close the cover on my center console cup holders and half of the flexible cover thingee was missing and presumed to be down below the back of the cup holders.

Is this a major project to replace? Has anyone done it?

It is certainly NOT a difficult job. You can easily do it yourself. You will have to change out the whole cup holder.

Take off the side garnishes, then it's 2 screws inside the floorpanel of the lower center console trim. 4 Screws that get revealed when you took off garnishes...pull back, unplug 12V accessory plug from underneath and pull center console out. (Don't quote me on needing to take out whole center console, I vaguely remember just being able to remove the cupholder section)

YES, rolling door is held on by 4 screws from beneath. I tried JB welding the flexible door but when I did that, it just broke on another rib. Just buy a new one!

I just had to do it on my TL as well and this is the part, it's #7 in the picture

77230-SEP-A02ZA HOLDER ASSY., CUP *NH525L*
( GUN METALLIC )

Basically the center console has to come out which is a couple of screws and removing the silver strips. Then you simply turn it over, unscrew the cupholders and put in the new one!

If you need any help with it, PM me!

Thanks.

I'm going to pick up the part tomorrow and that will tell me a lot about what needs to come apart also. They have it in stock at Delray Acura for $55 plus $3.95 for "handling". What's that? Putting it up on the counter? Idiots! They are totally geared for Internet sales; not local pick ups.

AJ, did you bend the aluminum trim strips when you took them off? Do they come off easily?

I wonder if there is a TSB on this. It seems to be common. And you know mine is hardly used.

Ron?

More than likely it's just the plastic drying out and breaking apart. I haven't looked into any TSB's in a while so I'll look them up when I have a chance.

The trick to the aluminum strips is to take your time and try not to bend them too much. Simply take a butter knife wrapped in a thin towel and slip it under the back (near the two pockets w/ the leather armrest) and slowly pry up. You'll see the clips release and slowly work your way up. Once you have them out, bend them slightly (Just a tad) the other way so you can ensure a nice tight fit. They come off pretty easily and aren't to big of an issue.

What may be the hardest thing during all of this is a small harness under the center console. It clips into the bottom inside with a VERY strong clip (like what they use to hold the battery cable to the air-box under hood) and then that harness goes to the power outlet and light-bulb. It takes a bit of feel and contortion to get your hand under it and undo it nicely and put it back in properly but it's not that difficult.

2005 TL Cup Holder Assembly

So does anyone know what is the trick to getting the cup holder assembly out? I removed the silver molding strips on each side of the console and removed various screws and assembly was loose but would not come out. Do you have remove the entire center console? If so, there are 2 screws on each side which you can't easily get to. Do you have to remove both front seats to take those two screws out to remove the console? Can't really be that involved to replace cup holder assembly can it????

I just replaced my cup holder yesterday....you need to remove the 2 screws in the bottom of deep storage compartment under the rubber mat, then 2 phillips screws right at the rear edge of the shift console, these 2 screws are straight up and down. once these 4 screws are removed you can slide the console back a couple of inches.
