Cruise control master switch

The cruise control master on/off switch stopped working (won't stay on). Symptoms: When I press the master on/off button, the green dashboard light turns on, but only while I hold the button down. To be clear, I am NOT trying to engage the cruise control, just turn it on.

[only as a test] Oddly enough, if I press and hold down the master switch and simultaneously engage the cruise control to hold a speed, it works. The second I remove my finger from the master on/off button, the master light goes off and cruise disengages.

Make sense? Does anyone have a quick fix? 2007 TL with Nav, 55k miles, just went out of warranty. Acura service wants $130 just to diagnose the problem.

Thanks

Most likely a broken spring within the switch button itself. Replace the entire unit. Theres a DIY in the 3G Garage for replacing your steering wheel lights that should have all you need for the actual process.
Looks like #1 ($146) here:

I have the exact same problem with my '04 TL... the cruise master switch won't engage on it's own, but if I hold it down then set the cruise, it works.

Did you have this repaired? How much did it cost you?

My mothers '01 Olds Alero had the same problem and the link below is what I used to fix it.

http://oldsmobileforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2895

Now I understand that the Olds is far from being a TL; however, if you can remove the switch and disassemble it, perhaps the fix is as simple as illustrated for the Olds.

I was going to purchase a whole new cruise switch harness from GM for $40 shipped. Then I would have had to replace it on the steering wheel, which did not look like fun, so I googled and it delivered the gem above to me.

Good Luck!
