Cross threaded bolt

I was doing my rear brakes today and I was in a hurry (big mistake) and was trying to get my rotor off which seemed stuck so I used an impact to screw in the caliper bolt (not the one that goes into the knuckle) into the threaded hole to oush the rotor out. Took it back out and now it won’t go into the caliper.

I have to go to work Monday so I have to get this done so now I have a few options. I was thinking run to Napa and try to get a grade 8 bolt from one of their refurbished calipers (if they’ll even sell it to me), or go to a local shop and pay them for a bolt (can’t really find one that’s open on Sunday). Can anyone tell me where I can get a bolt that’ll work for this part of the car (already tried home depot and nothing fits)?

I’m thinking to go get a tap and die set just to clean up the threads, only the bottom one or two were messed up, will the dies have one that matches this bolt as it seems they are custom bolts. Does anyone have experience with this?

It’s the rear calipers on an 08 acura tl, they are not brembo.

When I say custom bolts, I am quoting the helper at Home Depot. After some research I found these blts are M8x1.25, so as long as the tap and die set has that, I should be okay.

will running a die over the existing threads make the bolt any weaker or narrower such that its not good for use? I plan on replacing the bolt as soon as I can get to a honda/acura dealer.

It would appear, time is of the essence here. Maybe your best bet would be to replace the caliper. Unless you could find the correct individual tap, the cost of a quality set, would likely exceed the cost of a replacement caliper. In my area, an unloaded caliper, with bracket can be had for around $70.00. Just a thought!

Just as an update here. Turns out napa auto parts sellls the bolts separately $16 each side (both slide pins and associated bolts, in a suburb of Toronto, Canada). I also bought a tap and die set as a backup as the bolt is an M8*1.25, however I didn’t try that as I’m in a hurry, I can try that another day.
