Crazy Switchback Problem!! Help!
Crazy Switchback Problem!! Help!
I got 48 SMT V2 Switchback LED from V-LEDS.com few days ago. I installed them with the resistors and they worked fine. Today, I tried it on and one side was flickering. So I thought the LED went bad. To confirm it, it took the other side and swapped them. It didn't work. As I was playing around with them, I found a weird trend.
Both of the LEDs work perfectly outside the light housing.
Both of the LEDS work fine in amber in and out the light housing.
When it's in white, the light starts going out as the LEDs get inserted into the housing. When it reaches the third LED from the top, they die and come back on when I pull them off. Crazy thing is that both side do the exact same thing!!!
I thought it was a wiring, I move the wiring around, they did not make any difference. I tried changing the fuse to 15A from 10A, no difference.
It's almost like there is a wall of automatic switch
Does anyone have this issue?
Here's the movie:

So I wiggle the harness directly connected to the LED and nothing happened. I took the plastic cover under the hood and LED comes back on when I wiggle the wire harness that's connected to HID and fog light. It dies gradually after I let them go. Same thing on the both side. I guess, I gotta take the bumper off and see which ones are bad.
I cleared the head light few wks ago. They worked fine with the regular light bulbs.

check your wire harness. looks like every time you put the LED bulb in, you're stretching the wire harness a little and maybe connection came loose....and when you take it out of the socket, it loosen the wire harness. that's all i can think of.
I have V-leds that do this too. These bulbs have a sensor that make the white sensitive to outside light. If you pull into a garage or shade, the white will come back on. This, however, has nothing to do with the amber flashers, just the white parking LED. The ambers will flash regardless of the exposure of exterior light.
Try covering the LEDs as you have the light switch on.... or if you are in the garage, shine a flashlight at the bulb and you will see what I mean.
Hope this helps.

^So it could be fixed when it gets dark?? Let get my car somewhere dark ASAP. It's driving me crazy. But it kinda make sense since it lights up no problem behind the light housing where it's competely dark.
^Yep, your bulbs are fine. They aren't broken and there is nothing wrong with your wire harness, switch, or fuse.
If you press the unlock button on your remote while the sun is out, all the parking lights will flash...the switchbacks will flash for a split second and quickly dim to off or not flash at all if it senses light exposure.
If you press the unlock button on your remote at night with your car in the exact same position, all the parking lights will falsh...including the switchback white at full power.
I can pretty much guarantee it!!

I guess the sensor is located somewhere close to the bottom of the tower.
When I wiggle the harness from the tire housing, I was on my knee so the sun hits the light. When i wiggle the the harness from the top of the light, I was creating a shadow. I was fooled by the LED!!!

The type 1 V-leds alternate the white and amber for flashing, whereas the type 2 completely shuts off the white and allow amber to operate on it's own. When the flashing amber is complete, the sensors will let the white know that there is no other light source, such as the amber flashing, and power the white leds back on.

Only the Type 2 V-leds have the sensors. It's part of the 3 chip technology that's built in.

I am having the same problem with mine, and this is the response I got back from V-LED's (whom I might add, have great customer service):
Hi Justin,
Sorry I have not been in contact with you. Thanks for getting back to me. I have been unable to get good feedback with another TL owner as they have removed the LED's from their car. The only TL I have access to is a 2007 type S and it uses different bulbs than the 2004.
I have read the threads on AZ about the issue, and some of the things that are written in there are not factual. The LED's do not have a light sensor built into them, they sense voltage on the Blinker circuit to turn off the white LED's. I think it is a TL related issue, or a TL and possibly a specific production run of our LED's issue.
I am searching for a 2004 TL that uses the 7443 bulb so I can test this myself. Do you know of anyone on the AZ forum that lives in the pacific northwest who would be willing to let us use their car for a day to figure this issue out? Feel free to ask on the forum, we would like to get this taken care of for you guys.
Regards,
James

LOL...wasn't trying to sound like a dick, sorry.
Email I got from V-Led's for everyone having this problem:
I traced this problem down. It is a problem with the circuitry inside the LED that controls the function of the white LED’s. It is a defect with a certain production run so not everyone is having the problem.
So, we would like to exchange out the defective products for you guys with working products. Can I ask a favor of you? Would you post a thread or comment on any existing threads on Acurazine to see if any other members are having this problem. I need to gather some info on when these products were purchased to verify which production run needs to be taken out of inventory. If you can have everyone experiencing this problem email me directly at this email: tech@v-leds.com that would be great. We need the invoice # for each individual to track their purchase.
I really appreciate you being so patient with this problem. Your cooperation and feedback is important to us. V-LEDS is dedicated to bringing the best and brightest LED products to our customers. It is my job to make sure these problems are addressed and a solution is provided.
Thank you for your time, I am glad we can get this taken care of for the Acurazine community.
So if you are having this problem, please email V-Led's with your invoice number (you can look it up on their site) so they can track down the bad batch, and get you a new set of bulbs.

It seemed to make sense to me, but I guess not.
