V-Led's V2 Switchback Issue

About a month ago I bought a set of V2 switchbacks from V-Led's. A couple of days after the install was the UConn car show and we were standing around at the pre-meet location, when one of my friends pointed out one of the lights were out (car was running with parking lights on). So I walked up to the light to get a closer look, and as I got closer, my body cast a shadow over the bulb, and it "faded" back on to full brightness. Weird. So I moved so the bulb was back in direct sunlight, and it "faded" back off. This was happening with both bulbs.

I put faded in quotes, because the bulb doesn't just shut off in sunlight, it almost like when you use a dimmer switch for the light in your house. It goes from full brightness, then quickly fades off when light is shining on it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have contacted V-Leds, and they said another person was reporting the same problem. I have contacted them twice, and the response I got was that the other person was "running diagnostics on the bulb to try and figure out why it's happening." I haven't heard anything from them in two weeks, which is partly my fault becasue I've been so busy. But I guess I don't feel like I should be nipping at their heels to get them to rectify the situation, especially considering the amount of business they get from this site.

I guess my main questions are if anyone has had this problem, and if they have, were you able to fix it, if not, did V-Led's compensate you?

Thanks guys.

Keep working with them on it. They have been pretty responsive to my issues.

I know they have been very responsive with most people in the past. I'm not bitching at all, I'm probably one of the most patient people you'll meet, lol. If this is something I can fix myself, I'd rather just do that then send them back.

Just sounds like a goofy issue, given your description of the symptoms. Kind of like the whole "Street lights turn off when you walk underneath them"-type urban myth thing.
If they say they had someone else with same issue, you should follow up on them to see what they found. I know you don't want to "hound" them, but that is your role as the consumer, I guess.
Keep us posted on the results, please.

I thought someone else on here had the same question. I think the answer was they are light sensitive. If they are in sunlight, they dim, when its dark outside, they light up. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I don't like it. Why would the dim in the daylight. It's not like led's use a bunch of power, so I see no reason for this.

Just not my thing I guess. I would want them to be full power all the time.

I have EXACTLY the same problem and have been in touch with V-LED's and they actually mentioned that someone else with the same carwas having the same issue. They went back and forth with me and were looking into it. I haven't heard from them in a while and I didn't persist because I have other electrical issues to sort out, but I will follow up with them this week.

Here's a video that I sent them:

^^ thats kinda trippy. I have the version 1's. The other day one of my resistors went out so i bought replacement resistors then connect it and my leds still blinks fast. So i pulled them off and replug them many times (the bulbs) until it is the correct blinking pattern. So like others say you may have play around with it until its right!

Yes, same issue. However, V-Led's knew nothing about this issue beforehand, and described it as a defect. So the people in the other thread that think they are supposed to do this are incorrect. I'm pretty sure V-Leds would know if their bulbs had built in light sensors. But it seemed they knew nothing about it.

I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I'm going to email V-Led's today and see what's up.

makes no sense that they would be designed to dim during the day. if anything, they should be brighter during the day and dimmer during the night due to the contrasting.

V1's ftw.

I just got a response back from V-LED's, and I have to say their customer service is great when it comes to responding to questions. I'm fully confident if they're not able to resolve this that they will make it right.

This is what they said:

Hi Justin,

Sorry I have not been in contact with you. Thanks for getting back to me. I have been unable to get good feedback with another TL owner as they have removed the LED's from their car. The only TL I have access to is a 2007 type S and it uses different bulbs than the 2004.

I have read the threads on AZ about the issue, and some of the things that are written in there are not factual. The LED's do not have a light sensor built into them, they sense voltage on the Blinker circuit to turn off the white LED's. I think it is a TL related issue, or a TL and possibly a specific production run of our LED's issue.

I am searching for a 2004 TL that uses the 7443 bulb so I can test this myself. Do you know of anyone on the AZ forum that lives in the pacific northwest who would be willing to let us use their car for a day to figure this issue out? Feel free to ask on the forum, we would like to get this taken care of for you guys.

Regards,
James

So is there anyone in the Washington Area that would be able to help these guys out? Maybe they would be willing to compensate you somehow for your time.

If there is anyone that can do this, please PM me with you email so I can get them in contact with you.

The car must be an 04-08 BASE TL.

No problem man, I sent them the videos as well with my original e-mail back on April 4th.

I got this response back from them today. I was actually going to reach out the them since I hadn't heard from them since April 22, but they got to me first.

Hey Matt,

I have been trying to get this issue resolved but I am in need of a 2004 TL, or any TL that uses the 7443 bulb like yours. I have been emailing with another AZ member that is having the same issue, and this problem does not seem to be isolated to a few cars or people.

We are located in the Pacific Northwest and would like to get our hands on one of these cars for testing. I asked another member this same question, if you know of anyone with this car and lives in the Seattle WA area, and who is interested in helping us out, refer them to me so we can get a real answer to this issue.

Thanks for your time, talk to you later.

Regards,
James

I wonder if that's me he's talking about who removed the bulbs so he can't get any feedback, I hope not! I've gone back and forth for about 15 e-mails with them trying to trouble shoot the problem , then I took them out as I'm having another electical issue

LOL....I don't know. I linked James to this thread too, so hopefully we can get this worked out.

I'm going to try and mess around with mine tonight if I have time.

I have recieved word back from V-LED's today. Here is the response:

Hey Matt,

I traced this problem down. It is a problem with the circuitry inside the LED that controls the function of the white LED’s. It is a defect with a certain production run so not everyone is having the problem.

So, we would like to exchange out the defective products for you guys with working products. Can I ask a favor of you? Would you post a thread or comment on any existing threads on Acurazine to see if any other members are having this problem. I need to gather some info on when these products were purchased to verify which production run needs to be taken out of inventory. If you can have everyone experiencing this problem email me directly at this email: tech@v-leds.com that would be great. We need the invoice # for each individual to track their purchase.

I really appreciate you being so patient with this problem. Your cooperation and feedback is important to us. V-LEDS is dedicated to bringing the best and brightest LED products to our customers. It is my job to make sure these problems are addressed and a solution is provided.

Thank you for your time, I am glad we can get this taken care of for the Acurazine community.

Regards,
James
The Tech@V-LEDS.com

So as directed, anyone experiencing this problem, please contact V-LED's for a reolution. Thanks!
