Cracked transmission. Help please!

So my transmission is cracked and I was wondering if it was possible to weld it back together. It's a 2007 base model btw. Also, would jb weld work? And lastly, would a 2001 acura tl transmission fit to replace my 2007? Please help, thanks all.

-2007 and 2008 base and type s use the same transmission.
-JB weld will not hold
-You can have it welded, but it has to be perfectly welded by someone who knows how to weld aluminum extremely well. You don't want it to leak. Might as well call TRANSTAR and order a new one. Its where the dealers order from. Only a shop can order it though.http://www.transtar1.com/

How did it crack?

Time for a used tranny swap. You might as well use the opportunity to drop in a rebuild.

better than a buddy of mine who has a seized caliper and instead of fixing. Cut that brake line and clamped it shut.

lets just say....no one gets in his car when he picks you up

3.5 transmission on the type s is not the same as the base 3.2.

There are close but there are differences. Like the 3.5 comes with a transmission cooler, stiffer tq converter and stronger internals.

I only know this cause the guy who rebuilt my trans on my cls knows everything about honda/acura till 2012 and I have asked him all sorts of shit about my car and my brothers and one thing he clearly mentioned is that the 3.5 is actually a differnt transmission. Acura did beef it up a bit... Bravo

no a 2001 TL transmission will not fit.

a 2004-2006 TL transmission will not fit either.

Sorry but he's wrong or you interpreted it wrong.

Tell me why my 2008 base model has transmission cooler lines?

All 2007-2008 base and Type-S use the same transmission.

2004-2006 base TL transmission differs from 07-08

Maybe he meant 08-07. I was comparing it to my car when he made the comment it was different so maybe I'm twisting his words a bit.

Fuck now that I think of it he had 2 acura tls in the driveway and one was an 06 the other was a 05 and he pointed at them saying how they are not the same as my brothers type s.. So yea I think I'm busted.

I shoulda known cause a lot of things changed in 07-08. My bad

As for the crack op I have had tremendous luck with jb weld... But that would be one hell of a success story if u could fix it with 10$ of jb. Where is the crack and how long is it.

Aluminum requires tig welding which I think is the most complex welding aside from welding underwater lol. So if ur going to get it welded that may be pricey. And I dunno if it will even work cause I don't weld.

But I will say if it's just a leak I'd probably be looking to just stop the leak like u are...

But u gotta wonder why did it crack to begin with... Do u know?

I dont know how you had 2 TLS in the driveway if one was an 05 and the other 06, 3G tl were only made in a type s in 07-08. 04-06 they only had a base auto and a manual auto with brembo's. bustd again. It's all good man.

the 07-08 transmission has the exact same part number for base and type S. I was surprised when I found out but it is what it is

Well, I drove to college station and back, which is like a 1.5 hour drive. I know I didn't hit anything, all I know is I woke up the next morning to see my drive way drenched in transmission fluid. I have yet to take a look at the issue area, I have just been driving around my family's car for the time being. I'm planning to get my baby on a lift this Friday to check out the problem area. Thanks everyone for their inputs though.

Try to JB weld it. Whats it going to hurt? Your not going to be any worse off than before. I have seen people JB weld small cracks in engine blocks that were leaking coolant and have it last 1-2 years.

I agree - why spend the cash if you don't have to. If it doesn't work, what did you lose? Oh your transmission has a crack in it. Wait, it already does. Your engine won't magically disintegrate if you jbweld the transmission case.

Eh well thank you everyone for your inputs, you were all extremely helpful. In the end I end up finding a used 2008 transmission with 40k miles on it and swapped it into my car.

Yes, but where was the crack on the original trans, and any idea what caused it? or was it just a broken part?

Ok listen, go to your local automotive store and pickup a hacksaw. Get a nice sturdy blade and cut a 2 foot by 2 foot whole in the floorboard right infront of your drivers seat. Now put car in neutral, stick feet through hole and flintstone that shit...

No but really, like mentioned above, JB weld is only a temporary fix at best. If you know you have a problem that serious I would recommend just work on getting a new tranny. Maybe you can find a reputable honda shop around that will do the work for ALOT cheaper. Might even be able to rip one from a junk yard but that is going out on a limb.
