Cracked dashboard in '04 TL
This message is for Chris who started this thread.
This is the exact wording from the certified warranty program.
Acura will repair or replace any part that is defective in material or workmanship under normal use.
Yours is defective from normal use. You've got to get them to cover this for you.
Let us know of your progress. You gotta fight for what's right.

Hey yankeezone: My car is only 40K miles and it's a Certified Pre Owned and they don't want to honor the Certified warranty program (1yr/12k miles extra to the original 4yrs/50k miles). Check out my pics in the previous page.
sagreba,
I see from this thread that there are more than a few with the cracked dash - especially on the 2004 TL. I still can't believe that Acura won't cover this. I've read all the arguments from - you don't see other cars with this - to - this shouldn't happen with a $30,000 plus car.
It is ridiculous when you think about it. It's an Acura - it's supposed to be a premium car - WITH premium service - you pay for it up front and expect it - AND you're not getting it in this case.
I would really love to have them tell me with a straight face, that this isn't covered. What is the reason? It's a trim piece? Your warranty covers defective material. This is clearly defective material. They are obviously trying to make you go away. If you don't, and if you complain enough, you will eventually get results. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
You've got to squeak!

sagreba32 - 2004 - 40,000 miles - Centro de servico Acura, Guyanabo PR - Malaret (se encarga de las garantías), Debrah Rodriguez (parts manager), Jose Carlos Villares (Vice President of sales), Santos Antonetti (Service Vice Prsident), (I have also called Corporate Acura to let them know about the problem)
They told me two weeks ago that they were going to pay for the dashboard but not for the labor. The labor is $500, and I don't want to pay that for a defect, in which Acura is supposed to pay for. I'm going to keep pushing and pushing. I've been dealing with this since Septmber.
Good luck

People with cracked dashes please check in here...
So my dash is getting a lot worse and I have contacted Acura corp again about it. If they do not offer any assistance this time I am thinking about contacting a lawyer to start a class action lawsuit.
I am not sure what all it takes but I have a friend of mine looking into it right now to see how many people I would need and what else would be needed to get it started up.
If you have a cracked dash or know a member/friend that does have them post in here if they are willing to sign up. Depending on how thing go with corp this week I may get the ball rolling on this.
My dash is cracking all the way around the airbag to the point of where it is about to be exposed. That alone should be a reason to replace it as this could be a safety issues.

Same problem
Another PuertoRican with the same problem... I just bought a 2004 TL, car was fine for a couple months but last week the stupid crack showed up. I have a meeting with the waranty guy in the dealership in PR two weeks from now. gathering up my info before i meet with him so I can get this fixed (for free). Any help will be greatly apreciated.
I wonder if the reason most cases reported are with 2004 Tls is beacuse newer models have been exposed less time to the elements? I also wonder if the problem has been corrected for new dasshes installed as a replaceement. would suck to get it fixed just to have to replace it again in 4 years.
I was also going to add my picture but dont know how to.
Peace you all, and good luck

amazing... that's some pretty gnarly stuff there. They really classify the dash as a trim piece? What's the definition of trim piece? Like 'optional'? So then can you buy a TL without a dashboard? I think a lawyer could pick this apart in no time.
rolan04tl: Please contact me at pedro.fabregas@gmail.com, I have lots of info for you.
yeah.. they're real assholes.. we should file a class lawsuit against them.. for a 4-5 year old car.. this should not be happening.

Well here are the pictures of my dash I just took. Sorry some of them are blurry, my camera is a piece.
I would like to first say that I bought this 2004 WDP TL on July 19, 2008 from an independent car company. The car originally was leased out by an Acura dealer in Florida and found its way up here to North Carolina to the place I bought it from. The dash was near perfect except for a very small crack (passenger side, the crack all the way to the right). It was barely the size of a top of a push pin. It didn't bother me, so I bought the car. I clean my car weekly and use some sort of Meguiars interior cleaner. I can't exactly remember the name, but I'll gladly go downstairs and take a pic of it incase anybody wants to know what I use. This car has been garage kept since I bought it. Any day it's over 75 degrees, I use my car shade. I park under trees whenever I can. I crack my windows and my sunroof when it is excessively hot as well. I have tried just about everything to keep it from cracking and it WILL NOT stop.
Here are the pics....hold your breath.

The day I brought the car home....7/19/08...no cracks present

As you can see I HAVE edited the newer pics. I made them all black and white because I thought you could see the cracks a little better. These cracks get worse week by week and I can't stop them whatsoever. The picture from when I got the car shows how the dash used to be. You cannot see the very small crack I mentioned earlier, but it's there.
The cracks on top of the gauge cluster are the newest that have popped up. They start on the top right side and go all the way to my windshield. I'm not sure if yall can tell by looking, but the crack follows the "crease" in the dash around to the left side of the gauge cluster thing and then that crack turns into the one that leads to the tweeter.

Wow....I thought mine was bad. I'm in for what ever. These cracks really make our cars look cheap.

cheap ????? this dash make them look like a 15 year old car !!!!!! I don't know how acura let this happend they should fix this for free, is a shame for them that this is hapening and worst of all they don't want to fix it !!!
The cracks make my car look like shit, I'm not going to lie. My moms 1997 Dodge Intrepid has been sitting outside ever since we got it brand new late in 1996, and it doesn't have a single crack in the dashboard, it looks brand new. And my 04 TL has those cracks...looks like the damn Grand Canyon.
I hope your talk with the Corp office goes well whenever you call them. I can't believe after not even a year, all of those cracks have appeared on my car.
My previous 01 CL-S with over 100k miles wasn't even close to having any cracks on the dash. The CL's dash felt more like a thicker leather while the TL's dash feels like a shitty plastic. In no way shape or form should a $35,000 car that's about 5 years old develop these horrible cracks, no matter if it sat outside all day or not. It's pure bullshit to say the least.

Wow i read about this happening to members but i had no idea it was a physical crack in the dash. That is outrageous, what would cause something like this to happen besides the materials?
Well i do hope something is done about this, i pray my dash won't end up like this also. Unacceptable.
