Just joined up to the board to try to figure out my car's non starting issue and saw this thread. My '04 has started cracking about three years back and seems to get new ones every few months. I never figured it was a widespread problem. Maybe I'll call Acura and plead ignorance. The worst they can say is no, right?

Finally decide to embrace the impending drama after ~2yrs and start the process of getting my dash replaced. The '04 TL was purchased new and has recently been appointed to daily driving duties. It only has 48k on it so it's just breaking in. Depending on how this goes, when it's time to move on, guess which manufacturer won't be considered. Been a loyal Honda customer for 20+ years, but things change.
It's ridiculous we need to go through rings of fire to get something done. Called Acura Client Services and took the car into My local dealer for inspection. First thing he did... Pull up my service history. LOL.
He mentioned Acura has 3 tiers... 20%, 50% and 70% good will warranty coverage.
Anyone else had success with Auto Nation Acura in Sanford?
Thanks to all the members that provided info on the process! This board is still one of the best on the net.
Wish me luck!

^^^Agreed!
They have all levels of percentages off....I don't mind paying SOME to fix a problem, but not all, especially not at the inflated prices.
Good luck on your quest, man!
J.
In a way, I miss my dash topper and not having to give a flying fk about my dash getting too hot etc.

its kind of upsetting knowing that at the end of time, every TL will have its dash cracked. Seems its just the material becoming brittle over time and not being able to handle the expansion/contraction

Completely agree. I have no issue with paying something as long as they take into consideration brand loyalty and the low mileage and condition of the car.
The bigger issue I have is that the problem doesn't seem to be addressed in later models. Sadly it seems their are 2 types of dashes for the 3rd generation TL. One that's cracked and one that's going to crack.

I've posted this before, and will repeat myself one more time: I see a strong overlap of posters with cracked dashes that live in humid climates. I'm not saying it's a 100% correlation (so please don't reply about your cracked dash in Arizona) but I do think there is a connection.

If more than one person is sharing the same story of a cracked dash (in this case it seems an overwhelming amount) then it's global problem. End of story. Bottom line is it shouldn't be happening unless Acura adds a disclaimer that states, "cracked dashes may appear prematurely if vehicle purchased operates in states where the climate is humid."
So keep on repeating your theory... Those of us with cracked dashes don't care.

Wow, that's a killer deal.
IMO, bottom line is the dash has a certain amount of temp change cycles before it goes. I'm guessing it's somewhere around 5 to 7 years depending on where you live. I wouldn't be shocked if humidity plays a part too, but don't think it's the main factor.
I now do the sun shade religiously as well as crack all my windows. With the window visors, I don't even have to worry about rain getting in.

And the temp cycle thing sounds like a probable cause.. 100+ degree summers then 20 degree winters... yeaaaaa

Cracked dash replaced now AC
All,
I read the threads and issues (there now seems to be a class-action lawsuit started in Florida...see the facebook site started for Acura TL cracked dashes).
I decided to go ahead and replace mine ($650 was what they charged me after their good faith). Of course I get it back and the AC immediately starts failing. After a few days it doesn't work at all. I'm assuming this has something to do with connections between the compressor and the dash unit but he dealer is acting like the dash replacement couldn't possibly be related and wants to charge another $130 to recharge the AC. I've looked quickly for diagrams, etc to back up before I call them back....anyone have info I can use? (it's a little too coincident that a perfectly working AC suddenly fails when the change the dash).

^Just ordered my Sedona suede dash topper. Had a crack start a few months back, and now I just got one where the passenger side airbag is. ![Yuck](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/yuck.gif)
I have not tried the dealership yet, but I plan on going there and negotiating a trade on a 4th gen TL and start the whole process from that point. If they point out the cracks then I will "shed some light" on that subject. If they offer to goodwill the service then I will consider going that route. Don't think it will be that easy though![Wish](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wish.gif)
I do have my car for sale locally and I would like the buyer to feel confident with their purchase, but Im not paying $600 or more on a dash replacement. I will offer the dash cover with the car if im not successful in getting the dash replaced. Its only two cracks now, but who knows how bad it will get in a years time.

I am extremely irritated right now. We bought our 2007 Acura TL type S a year ago for $20,000. We paid that much for a used car because we thought we were getting a quality product from a great company. Boy were we wrong. This summer the dashboard started to crack in two places. I has gotten larger throughout the summer. We called Acura to try to resolve the issue. It is obviously a design flaw on their part but they were not willing to help out at all. They told us that there was nothing they could do because we are not a 'loyal' Acura customer. This is the 3rd Acura I have owned. I am not a loyal Acura customer.
Up until recently I have been a huge fan of Acura. I have convinced several of my friends, family, and acquaintances looking to buy a vehicle that Acura is the way to go. From now on I will do the opposite. I could have chosen from several brand new cars for $20,000, but instead I bought what I thought was a 'quality' used car.
All we wanted was for Acura to fix their crappy dashboard so we could go on being happy with our purchase. My wife drive's this car, I drive an Acura RSX (but I am not a 'loyal' Acura customer). Has anyone else had this experience with Acura client services? They came back and said they would not help with the cost at all! If they end up not covering the majority of the repair, I will jump ship and I will never buy another Acura. I am 26 years old and I have owned 3 of them in my life. They have not been new vehicles, but I imagine I will have several brand new cars in my future. Acura is about to lose a potential customer over something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place!

Just got mine in yesterday. Layed it out on the dash to form and will be using the Velcro strips soon.
Hey Rockstar, did you (or anyone else) use any extra Velcro strips? and if so, what keys points did you place them at? I will most likely add more small strips to keep the tension on the cover. My cover came with two, but I have extra available from my audio build

I am sorry to hear that! The dealer I use was nothing but helpful and I only have the one Acura with them, I didn't even buy the car from them, but I do have a good relationship I have built with the service reps over the last 2 years. Have you tried going there and speaking with the Manager? I learned that the managers do all the pleading for you to Acura and not the service reps. More than likely that dealer is not trying doing there best to get Acura to help you....

Has anyone bought the Coverlay ABS Dash? It's a bit pricey but it seems to be the best option if Acura won't replace the Dash for you. They go for about $200 with shipping. I have an 04TL with a cracked dash and bought the Dashtex Dash Cover but I don't really like the look of it. I'm thinking of buying the Coverlay but wanted to see pics of it installed 1st before buying it.

I just purchased an 07 NBP tl 3 weeks ago and just last week my dash started to crack in 2 places. I contacted my local acura dealership and they told me they would only cover 20%.
