Exclamation Cracked Dash Advice and Apporach

About year and half ago we noticed one crack on the dash board and were shocked to see this at 75K miles. Our vehicle is very well maintained and has never been in an accident. We have just a slight bit over 100K on the car now and car has always been garaged. Over the course of the past year we began noticing multiple cracks on the dashboard. Nothing we have done in maintaining or cleaning the car could have caused this. We now have 4 large cracks on the dash in 3 separate places. One of them being over the passenger side air bag. The crack over the passenger air bag is a huge safety concern for us. Would it or could it prevent the airbag from deploying? Or injury the passenger? I contacted my local Acura Dealer and they are quoting for Dash Board Replacement: $847.15 Parts + Labor $1000.60. The Service rep I spoke to admitted that this was a common occurrence with this model and year TL. I then began searching the internet and noticed numerous 2004 TL and 2005 TL owners are experiencing the same issue. I am both shocked and appalled at that fact that Acura hasn’t taken the ownership of this manufacturers defect. I should not have to pay almost $2000 to repair manufactures defective part in a “luxury automobile.” I contacted Acura corporate and received a call the next day. The individual was not kind and understanding as I expected. He instead asked if I serviced my car at dealer and owned other Honda/Acura. I asked him why that matter and he said he wanted to see If I was loyal to the brand. I asked him is not buying the car itself showing your loyalty. He said since I bought it used I was not . I asked them to repair or replace the dash at their cost. He told me up front they won’t do this. I asked him find out what the best they can do is and get back to me. Waiting to hear back, pretty pissed about this. Never had an issue with dash cracks even on my 13 year old Honda Accord. I also own a Infiniti FX35, they had a similar issue with defect of the dash but voluntarily replaced the dash in my car no question asked: http://www.infinitiscene.com/forum/t...mited-miles%29

My questions are:
What are others experiences with this? What is a reasonable amount to pay if any?
Has anyone tried to handle this in small claims court?

Welcome to the club.

No, the crack won't interfere with the airbag.

if both are made of the same material and both come flying at you at 80mph, they would both equally hurt you the same.

we got a wise guy on our hands, boys.

and yeah, most live with it and or try to ask the dealer to cover it. the dealer ends up covering part of it; while the rest is up to the owner of the vehicle.
I've seen a very nice dash cover!

I've been reading through the thread didn't see anyone state they tried small claims court. Also noticed someone out of Florida trying to start a class action but no one posted that either. Any advice or links are appreciated!

Its like an A-Spec thread or an oil thread, there will probably always be new ones started from time to time.

I didnt bother going to an Acura dealer since I bought my car used, and will most likely get denied if I have tried to haggle down the service fees. Ended up buying a dash cover for about $50. Hides the damage and it doesnt look bad at all.

1) Try to get some credit from Corporate by disputing respectfully and get new dash installed by dealer.
2) Get a dash mat to cover it.
3) Join the Class Action law suit. http://www.acuradashboarddefect.com/

There I listed 3 options. Whatever you do don't get it fixed or try to fill the cracks. I learned the hard way and it cracked again after I professionaly repaired it. It looks good for about a month.

All of us need to put up a class action for these cheaply made dashboards. It took years for Acura denying their problems with the 2G transmission and they were finally hit with a class action and offered the extended warranty. Same thing needs to happen for these dashes.

Hasent happened to my 08 yet, but I know it will. I still use aerospace 303 regularly and put up a sun shade. It would be nice if the problem was rectified for those who have already experienced it.

Received info back and have Acura now offering $700.
They are saying is the best they can do since I am second owner and don't service my car at dealership. Anyone have any other advice ? Tried the Facebook and twitter picture postings also. Would like go get them under $500 if possible.

Also if this turns into a class action does Acura have to refund this who paid ? If the are found at fault and require to replace dashes ?

Thats pretty low! Anything in particular that helped to get it down so low?? Mine just cracked the other day; have a claim in. I am the original owner and had a previous acura and honda so hopefully that holds some weight. did all my service w/ acura until 2 years ago when warranty expired and it just became far too expensive.

Wow...$37.00 is the best found in fixing this matter. I live in HTX as well...I just found out that my dash cracked yesterday - 04' TL with 76K miles and always garage. I almost cried....

Would you kindly advise how did you handle the matter with Sterling McCall? I really really really appreciate your advice in advance....

How did the service go? Were they able to replace the dash for you?
