Couple questions about my newly purchased 06 TL 6spd

Hello everyone!

Just bought a 06 TL with 80k on it, came with the Type-s wheels and Front brembos. The person I bought it from is not the one who made the modifications. I was curious, are the rear brakes on the type-s the same as the ones on the standard TL? If not how would I be able to tell if they are the Type s rear breaks or the stock ones. Obviously you can just look at the fronts and tell.

Also the car did not come with the manual so i need to find it online. In the meantime could someone recommend how often to change the transmission fluid? I usually go with GM fluid, if anyone thinks thats not a good idea please let me know.

Thanks for any help, I look forward to doing lots of research on here and contributing where I can!

the '06 TL equipped with 6MT came with brembos from the factory.

which would mean the rear brakes are stock and no modifying has been done to the car in terms of brakes.

also, i change out my MT fluid every 30k miles with the GM syncromesh modified friction fluid

Very cool and good to know!
Wasn't much history on the car I purchased, I was going to change the oil and tran fluid this weekend. I noticed when driving around town that the console area right past the shifter like right inside the 2 little bays gets very very hot like almost to hot to touch is this normal since the transmission is right below there or should I be concerned? It does not get that way when cruising on the highway.

Real special ones like mine came with LSD in the glove box too.

Make sure and get the "modified friction" like Justn says.

Welcome to the TL club and to AZ.

There was just a thread about this a few months ago with the fix and photos on how to fix it. There is a plug that comes out and lets the engine heat in. I'll try and find it for you.

^no, some one recently bought a TL, just like yourself...
asked why it was so hot from the cubby near the shifter.

I chimed in saying it was normal, because engine/transmission is right underneath.

the dude took apart the center console and found that a "plug" (i dont remember what it was) was not seated correctly and letting hot air enter the cabin

TL;DR

if you're curious take apart the center console and see if you can find anything abnormal

Haha ok cool thanks, yeah I probably shouldn't do that. I do need to figure out an AUX line however.

Yeah, sorry I can't find it. I think it was in a several question thread, not one titled "hot console" or something easy to find like that.

Either way, it was a lot of work to fix. I remember that much.

if installing something like the P.I.E x3 or an Isimple, or something of the like....(aux input hardware)
you're going to have to tear into the center console.

good time to see if anything looks abnormal in there!
