Countershaft Speed Sensor

My speed cluster stopped working a few weeks back with a check engine light, took it to my local mechanic and it poped up as P0720 (Countershaft Speed Sesnor) so i went ahead and ordered the part that he pointed to (The sensor on the driver side tranny) and he said i can change it myself, so today i got the part from the dealer and went ahead and put it on, unplugged the battery to reset the light. Took it for a drive and still not working and the light is soon to pop up again. So my question is has anyone incountered this before and if anyome has a diagram of all the speed sensors, i belive there is two because the dealer said witch one i wanted and i told him the one on the driver side tranny.

Bump

My car just threw the same code. Did you end up fixing this yourself? If so, was it hard and do you have the part number?

Or if anyone else could help out, that would be great!!

PS on a side note I noticed that whatever prevents the driver from shifting into reverse at highway speed, doesn't work if the car thinks its not moving. I have to be very careful shifting into 6th!

An update for others who have this sensor go bad.

It was really easy to do once I figured out which one it was. It'll be the sensor facing the front of the car (the other input sensor faces the passenger side wheel). I couldn't really get it out from underneath because of the awkward angle, so I took the driver's side wheel off and from there it was a piece of cake. Pop a couple of clips on the fender liner to get to it. A 10mm bolt holds it in. Popped it out and put the new one in with a few suggestive taps from a hammer. Speedo works fine now.
