Confused at blinking drive light
Confused at blinking drive light
I have a 2005 Acura TL with 80000 miles on it. I was driving from LA back to SF (appx 350 miles) this weekend when the green "drive" light started blinking. I pulled over at the next gas station and turned off my car and let it sit for like 20 minutes and when i started it up again, it stopped blinking and its been good ever since. CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME?
SOME NOTES:
1. I usually dont drive with my AC on but I had it on the entire drive because it was 90 degrees.
2. I looked at the owners manual and it said that a blinking green "drive" light means a transmission problem.
3. I just drained and filled my ATF 10K ago. I checked both my engine oil and transmission oil levels and they are good.
4. My gas mileage was 31 mpg the entire way.
5. I know my coolant hose tubing is old but it doesnt leak very much.

Hmmm..Just so you know these 3G transmissions are kind of fussy, and usually have plenty of problems if you don't address them soon enough. If i were you, I'd have the codes read. Even if it doesn't show a Check engine light, sometimes the computer saves them in the memory before it actually sets a light.
I accidently pulled the wrong fuse (don't remember which one) and got that til I reset the battery. There was no driveability issue, the car was just trying to make me feel stupid. Have you checked fuses and/or disconnected the battery recently?

The blinking D light indicates a Transmission code as been thrown. You cannot access these codes with a normal OBD2 scanner. Fortunately Honda has left us a little-known backup in the form of the dashboard. If you jump two pins in the Service-Check-Connector, the D light will blink out the codes thrown and you will be able to self diagnose the problem.
Typically if there are no dirveability issues accompanying the D light issue, it will most likely tell you to replace a transmission switch.

BTW: If you jump the wrong pins, you will blow a fuse, so be sure to get it right the 1st time. Blink codes can be looked up OEM service manual. If you don't have one, then tell us the codes and we will look it up for you. Slow blinks are 10's and short blinks are 1's add them together to get the code number (4 longs and 2 shorts = code 42).
