Cold Starts

Good Morning all,

With the cold weather recently I've noticed a slight change in cold starts. I am forced to park outside, yet use a cover every night to protect my paint from the elements, so lets dis-regard the issue of the negatives of parking outside.

The problem, or concern, that I have is a slight increase in "ticking" noise I'm hearing at first cold start-up. There is a slight "tick" that is not obnoxious, but is audible for approx. ~4-5min until the engine is warm, at least registering a temp on the indicator gauge. The noise is only present after a cold night of sitting at first start. It does not create this noise at any other time, and seems to be less significant with warm mornings.

My first thought would be a valve adjustment, but before I either tear into it to check, or take it to someone more experienced to check, I thought I would ask here.

Thanks guys.

Does the tick get worse with more rpm or more load?

I'll check it tomorrow. it only does it after sitting overnight, and I haven't applied load until it gets quiet.

I've read through everything I can find for the last couple of hours. The belt tensioner was changed with the belt and water pump and plugs 20k miles ago, the heat shields are sturdy and firm, no movement or rattle.
