cold engine noise
cold engine noise
I have a 06 tl 6sp with approx 1700 miles. The car is less than 2 months old and ever since I got it It has made a slight tapping noise when cold. It did not seem right but I just figured I would wait and see if it go away when the warmer weather arrived. Well its getting warmer and now the noise seems to be getting worse, it now sounds more like a knocking sound! Will leave it at dealer next tues. Here's my question? Has anyone else heard any kind of engine noise when engine is cold? This afternoon I started the car and let it idle down, with my window open I could here a definite rapping sound as the engines rpm's came downand continued to make the noise as I started pulling out of my parking space. If anyones interested when you have time, listen to your engine at first startup and let me know your findings? Thanks
i posted a thread about this a couple months back. i got the same deal goin on in my 05/6mt. i just finally got around to getting it serviced. i head on vacation the first week of may and im leaving it with my dealer to see whats up with that ticking amongst other things. mine hasnt gotten any worse though. if it gets worse, u might have a bad problem. in my opinion on my car, i just think the valves need adjusted. adjusting the valves is a regular maintanance that needs performed on acuras. check ur service manual and youll see when the adjustments should be made. granted i think its wierd that its ticking already considering i only got 9000 on mine, but i guess well have to wait and see when i take it to the dealer in 2 weeks. ill let u know when i find out what the deal is. if u find out anything, let me know also.
The noise I hear seems more like a rapping noise. This morning I let it idle down and it did not make the noise until I raised the rpm's fron 1000 to 1300 then I heard the noise, it went away when the rpm's went above 1400. There is no noise when engine is warm.Sounds to me like lack of oil somewhere.
Went outside at lunch time to see if it would make noise after being off for about 5 hrs, sure enough after starting I was able to reproduce the rapping noise by slowly increasing rpm's from idle to about 1300rpm's and holding it there. With the hood open and my friend in the car I was able to hear the noise coming from the area of the rear valve cover. But the noise sounds more like a piston slap than a valve tap.It also doesn't go right away, it was making the noise for several minutes. It was not making noise at idle or above 1400 rpm's.
I had the same problem with the ticking / knocking sound coming from the rear of the engine. You can hear it from the outside but not from inside the car, correct? I've asked this question awhile back and was told that it was the fuel injectors. People said it is a characteristic of Hondas.

I was going to say a single header leak can sound like a valve tick and go away when hot also but these cars don't have individual headers.
