Code P0302 showed up today...thoughts?

Got the code P0302 for the first time this afternoon. Looks like a engine misfire?! Sounds serious.
Automatic TL-Type S 2008
91k miles

Only things I've noticed recently:

1) A rough idle after starting the vehicle. About 1 minute into starting car can sort of feel a jerking back/forth and can see RPM gauge bounce a bit. Odd.

2) At low RPM in 5th gear the car also seems to jerk back/forth a bit or have the same symptom, a rough engine when crusing controlling in 5th gear at low RPMs. (Not sure how to describe!)

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

pull negative terminal from battery to reset code.

if code comes back, have code read from auto parts store, if same exact code comes back, you know you have an issue.

if doesnt come back, it was a fluke

check that the #2 and #5 cylinder spark plugs are tight and the coil packs are seated properly!

My personal opinion is that the spark plugs are really only good for about 60k at 92k they are getting old if they have never been done Plus they are 9 years old. I would start with the plugs if the code comes back. If it turns out to be an ignition coil PM me I have some spares sitting around I could sell you.

I would check the spark plug and test the coil pack. had a similer problem with my 05 base. turned out to be a coil pack just stopped working for whatever reason, I had 150,000 on the car though.

also had one of the spark plug gaskets in the valve cover rip ( due to my own fault ) after replacing them and oil leak down into the plug and caused a lot of problems. including a rough idle and very slow acceleration.

I have the same problem, same code, & same rough idle. Took it to Acura, it was the ignition coils.

Update: It's currently at Acura Service department for review. The P0302 seems unrelated to the rough idle, but maybe not? They are diagnosing both issues currently. Will let you know what it is, but assuming it could be ignition coils based on above post.

Duronn - Do you also notice a shake/roughness in the engine when at low RPM in 5th gear, for example?

I didn't think I could check the coil, because it seems like coil 02 is in the rear where I don't have access.

Thanks, may be interested. Never replaced those before so is it an easy DIY? If Acura comes back and tells me it is that, how much would you sell for ??

Welp worst case scenario. ignition coil melted to cylindar wall. May have to be machined and sent out. ???????

This is ridiculous

Here's the estimate: Let me know what you all think. Sucks as I'm only at 91k miles and already had to replace the radiator last year!! What the hell Acura?!

Said it is possible when they remove the coil that the engine won't need machined, but it's about an 80% chance that it will according to the tech.

Total Estimate at $4,913.42. (Should note this includes waterpump/timing belt because we're already there)

$5k? dam you could swap a whole new engine cheaper than that. The main cause of this issue because your A/C drain line got clog and the water drift down to ECU causing it to short circuit.

Main cause of the P0302 code? Because I don't see how that would have anything to do w/ a melted coil

I basically told them I'm waiting to see prices and get outside advice. Does anyone have thoughts on pricing?

This is overall miserably expensive...and at 91k I've had a ton of stuff go wrong on this car.

A/C drain rain line got clog the water over flow back into the cabin where the ECU sit (this is the root cause of melting ignition coil). Water and electronic does not goes well together aka short circuit fry and melt your ignition coil, its happened before here in AZ and if you don't correct the main problem after replace with a new head it gonna happen again. I just want to help you out but I guess you want to take "dealer expertise" advise then my hat goes to you.

Nope, that's why I'm posting here. Thanks for the tip. I just didn't understand how that could melt the coil, very weird.
