Transmission/Warranty Problems
Hi guys,
I am new here and haven't really done any research before purchasing this car. So please don't dig into me, I'm just looking for advice.
I just got this 2006 TL last June with 32k miles on it. Thought it was a deal. Transmission went at 41k in January. Unfortunately, I do not have the extended warranty from the dealer, so I went to a transmission shop and got it rebuilt for 3k. 5 months later, at 45k miles, tranny slips again on me, this time on the expressway without warning. I get it towed back to the shop that did the work and the mechanic there told me that I overheated it but since it was still under his "warranty" he would repair at no charge. A couple of days later I go to pick up the car and the tranny slips again 2 blocks from the shop. I take it back and he tells me that he will help me out on the labor cost but the parts will be around 2k because I overheated it and it wasn't a cause of his work. I told him to do the work because of my situation and I'm suppose to get the car back tomorrow after he did an entire swap. Shouldn't his warranty cover that? Did I make the right decision?
FYI: I called Acura twice and they said since the car is 10 years old and there are no recalls out on it, there is nothing they can do.

the shop that rebuilt the trans is giving you a runaround. There is NO WAY to overheat the transmission unless an internal component failed that should have been replaced during the rebuild. I hope you paid with a credit card and can open a dispute up.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't pay yet. I'm supposed to be picking it tomorrow. How would I go about disputing this with the mechanic?

What would overheat is the torque converter if there is no proper circulation of fluid.
Did he replace the filters and screens? Did he clean the valve body? Sounds like he didnt do a great job at rebuilding.
for the cost of 3k to have this rebuild. He should of
cleaned the entire trans and gears, valve body, replace t.q, filters,
