Clicking sound under the gear knob

Has any of you noticed this? When the car is in park press the brake without touching the gear. Do you hear a clicking sound from under the gear? I guess this the lock(that prevents you from shifting out of park without pressing the brake) disengaging. I never noticed this before. Has any of you noticed it?

Two years ago I noticed this, took apart the entire shifting mechanism assembly and lubed it with red synthetic lube. The click still existed, but is hardly noticeable now - that or I got used to it.

So it's there in everyone's car...I just wanted to know if it's in my car only. It doesn't bother me as such because most of the time I move the gear and press the brake at the same time and don't get the click...

Its the shift-lock mechanism. It should always make a click if you hit the brake as this releases the shift lock so that you can shift into drive. One time mine was spazzing out though and clicking like crazy. I turned the car off and turned it back and it stopped. It has not done this again since then.

I asked the dealer about that. The dealer told me it's the lock, it should happen to every one.

Normal. I had my shifter replaced under warranty just in case and it still happened. It's due to there not being a button on the shifter itself when switching gears. There's a solenoid in there that prevents you from shifting into reverse while driving, and that's the click you hear engage/disengage.
