chirping?

My engine is making a "chirping" noise when idling and sometimes when I start it after sitting for a while. My initial thought is tensioner or serpentine belt...any ideas?

i had this same problem on my type s last year...the problem started in the winter and mostly happend when i would start the car up after sitting for a few hours or more and the noise would go away after the car warmed up...

i isolated the noise with some belt dressing and yes it was the drive belt...i took it in and they replaced the belt but that night the noise was there on a start up, so i took it back in and they replaced the drive belt pulley or better know as the crankshaft pulley...

its been over a year and the noise hasnt come back...hope this helps

ps, i believe there is a service bulletin on this or something similar where they shim the pulley or something to that nature, if this is the case and you are out of warranty, they should honor it and fix at no cost

There's a TSB for this. Always search the TSBs. Use the sticky at the top of the "Problems" forum to get to the TSBs.

There are some HFL TSBs as well. Check them out and see if they might apply. Good luck!

Dunno if it applies, but I have it in my desk at work. Either way, I have the extended "wrap", so they are going to have to eat it either way. Thanks for posting this, though, having extra ammunition NEVER hurts!

So the dealership now has my ride, and they call to say what I knew was coming..."our technician can't seem to duplicate the noise you're talking about"...they're keeping it over night to see if it will happen in the morning. Can I insist they keep my car until they can reproduce this sound? Otherwise I'm out 100 bucks for them to say nothing is wrong, when I know differently. I hate cars
