"Check Starting System" Message

2008 TL, 40,500 miles: I have called 2 dealerships and 1 Honda/Acura specialty garage and this seems to be a rare occurrence. History: I haven't had any noticeable problems. Saturday, drove to work without any problems and parked. 14 hrs later, came out to start the car, turned the key and nothing (no cranking, nothing)--just got this error message on the dash. Battery has full charge (everything lights up really bright and looks nothing like a low or dead battery that I have experienced before). I replaced the positive battery clamp as it was split, cleaned both terminals, inspected all fuses (all normal), banged on the starter as was suggested by all service centers. I can't find a thing wrong. Before I have it towed to a garage, anyone have any other suggestions? This seems really odd to have everything running smoothly and then BAM, nothing.

I've seen and used the "bang the starter" trick many times, but there have been occasions when the starter wouldn't respond. Sometimes one can turn the key multiple times and the starter might catch one time to get the car to the garage or home, but that would be its last gasp.

Many year ago a Grand Cherokee V-8 let me down at a mall in a driving rain storm. Wasn't about to get soaked so sat in the Jeep and turned the key over 100 times before it caught. Drove it home, put it in the garage and changed the starter the next day.

Turns out a rodent had chewed through the wires. $1500 repair.
