Check Engine Light Code P0497
Check Engine Light Code P0497
Two weeks ago on my way to work, my gas cap error light came up. I took it out, cleaned it, and tightened it back in. But the message wouldn't disappear. So I did a reset by removing one of the battery poles, just as recommended here by a few threads.
Today, again on my way to work, the check engine light came on, so I went to Autozone for a quick scan, and they came up with code P0497 (Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Low Purge Flow).
Could this problem be related to the gas cap error i received two weeks ago? I was thinking I should replace cap before I do anything else.

You're gonna need an OBD scanner. Autozone will scan your codes for FREE, but they aren't allowed to clear the check engine light because it's "unlawful" . But, if you have any friends at the store or anyone with access to one. I'm sure they won't mind.
If not, you can get a cheap scanner for $50 at autozone.
or order a $25 from amazon that connects with your car by the OBD port, then wirelessly to your phone with an app called "Torque" that you can download for $5. Then, you can clear it as you please.

Im not sure if Acura's have something called a " leak detection pump " but I had this problem with my s4. Thought it was the gas cap, and at the end it was the leak detection pump that failed.
You need to run an Evap test to properly diagnose it. Any Honda/Acura dealer an do it. But it takes knowledge and some understanding of the system to perform the test and diagnose it. Most "dealers" will tell you, you need a new canister vent solenoid, canister and pure solenoid. Very unlikely you need all of it. The system is split into 2 sections. The fuel tank area and the canister area. Improper readings in either area will cause a check engine light and either a small/large leak in either system, even if a leak is not present. Good luck with your findings though.
