Check Engine light came on????

So my 04 TL has not been driven within the last two weeks. Today I went to start it to let it run a little and the check engine light came on. Could this be cause the car was sitting and it has been cold here in ct? The check engine light wasn't on before. Anyone that can shed some light on this will greatly be appreciated. Also I can't move the car to take it to auto zone because I have the front bumper off.

my car has sat for up to two weeks a few times...no problems here.

O2 sensor may be going bad if the car seems to run fine. our 03 accord threw a CEL earlier this yr...car ran fine...checked the code and it was a bad O2 sensor. had it replaced no problems since. this car is DD.

you can guess at it all day, pulling the code is the only way to know.

I had a car throw a knock sensor code after sitting for a while in the cold, I reset it at the battery and it never came back.

So that makes me ask why? What other changes/mods have you made to the engine/exhaust/intake ?

And FYI, for $30, you can check the codes yourself:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA0XA0851767

They are on sale at times for only $20.

Yeah, no telling with the PCDs. You'll have to grab the code.

No reason to even make a thread saying you have a CEL if you don't know the code. Pull the code. Thats going to help narrow down the problem from damn near anything, to a few specific problems.

I don't know specific laws for your state, but can't you drive anywhere you want without a bumper cover? Unless of course, you physically unbolted the bumper itself, which is the big metal bit.

The only problem driving without the bumper cover is that you have to tie up all of the splash guards and hope nothing hits the radiator.

Just threw one the other day too, but it's an 02 sensor for me. Not to derail, but I don't really understand which sensor is which. Where is Bank 1 Sensor 2 located? I searched and found stuff, but didn't quite get it from the threads I found.

Bank 1 corresponds to the bank with cylinder #1: The rear bank. Sensor 2 is the downstream sensor (or the sensor at the bottom of the precat).

How hard is the sensor to get to? Luckily, that's one of the cheap sensors. Unluckily, nobody has it in stock.

I understand that without a code it s hard to tell what it is. I just wanted to see if anyone ever went through not starting the car for a while and when they did, the check engine light came on, only cause my car is not drivable at the moment. But thank you

Thank you bro. I will get it read as soon as I get my bumper back on. And if anyone was wondering why I haven't driven it, it is because I just bought a winter/work car that I am using now. It's a 95 Infiniti g20t , 96k original miles, one owner..

I'm not guessing about anything. If I could have it scanned, then I would have not started this thread. But like I said, my car is not moveable. Autozone does not let you borrow scanners here. I don't have to buy one cause I'm not in a rush to find out the code because once I get my headlights back, everything will be back on and then I can go get it scanned.

might as well diagnose the CEL while the car is out of commission. i'm sure you can find someone with a scanner. by the way all Autozones do loan-a-tool. check advance auto.you have to put down the full deposit though like if you're buying it. once you get the code i'll be more than happy to help. put some fresh gas in it and drive the car too.

Okay, so I got my headlights back and put everything back together. I took the car for a ride and the check engine light went away. So I'm guessing it came on from the car sitting for a while. But thank you all for help.

I can't believe I just read through this thread out of boredom. It's amazing how little people understand cars. "I think my cel just came on because it sat for two weeks." Rofl....dude you can't be serious can you?

You're right no one made me read it. Think about this logically. Why would a check engine light come on in your car just because it sat for two weeks? You realize why cel's come on in general right? The funny thing is you're so newbish that you refuse to pull the code. Any time a cel comes you you should really want to know what is wrong with the car and why it's on. Sometimes you can clear it and it won't come back but most of the times there is some sort of issue.....hence why it comes on in the first place.

And no it's not amazing how little people understand cars. Some have a lot of knowledge about cars and some have very little. Not everyone is the same. That's what this forum is for. To help people understand and solve problems that one may have. So if you wanna be a smart ass, you can kick rocks

Yes that is why the forum is here. Everyone said to go get the cel pulled. You decided in your obvious lack of knowledge to assume since the cel went out the cel light must have been a "car sitting for two weeks or longer" cel. You are lucky you didn't make it to 4 weeks. That one doesn't go out.

I don't get it, if I was being a smart ass why would I want to kick rocks?

Don't be lazy, pull the code and see what your issue is with your car.

So I went to auto zone the other day to see what codes come up. And no codes showed up. My cel hasn't come on since. So I'm thinking it had something to do with the pcd's. I could be wrong but if it comes on again, I will get it checked out.
