Cool Check engine light after air filter change

Hi everyone,

I just changed both my cabin and engine air filters. When I started the car, I got a VSA warning and a warning about the check engine light being on (and that vehicle may operate on reduced power).

I looked back at the engine, and I hadn't reconnected the wire just next to the air inlet (above and to the left of the air filter). I turned the car off, reconnected the wire, restarted and now no VSA warning - but still a check engine light.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know what component that wire connects to?

Thanks in advance! I just had my oil changed and everything was fine at the dealership, so I think this may be related to my tinkering!

Thanks for the tip! Technically, it's the MIL (yellow outline of the engine) that's on rather than a red check engine light. I'll try using the reset button tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Double check to make sure the code relates to what you did before clearing it. Surely it is. Then just clear it.

Go to any auto parts store and they will read it for free. Chances are that the ECM will reset the light within a few days if it was a simple matter of an unplugged sensor.

Thank you both for the tips! You're quite right - the light turned itself off when I ran the car the next day

Good to know that auto parts stores will do this for free -- I have heard stories about dealerships charging $100 just to hook the little machine up!

Go buy one for $100. It is a good investment. Glad you got it figured out.

Just for future reference (I just changed out my engine air filter), you do no have to unplug anything to get to the filter. Unscrew the four bolts holding the box closed and then push the filter towards the engine (compressing the intake tube a bit) and lift up.
