Exclamation Changed timing belt, now have P0344 CEL Code

Hey guys!

Newbie here with a problem!

I finished up changing my timing belt, water pump, and fixed an oil leak coming from my oil pump last night. Got everything back together, went for a drive, with no issues. After making sure the car was nice & warmed up, I decided to get on it. At full throttle in 2nd gear, at ~6300 RPM, the engine kicked out of VTEC, threw a CEL, and shutdown. I restarted it and limped it back home.

I put the scanner on it, came back as a P0344 code: CAM Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent B1.

I have a copy of the TL service manual, but per the manual, troubleshooting this code requires an HDS.

You guys have any suggestions I could do myself? Thanks in advance!

check all your wiring connections that they are SEATED FIRMLY and also check and make sure that the sensor itself is seated properly.

Swap between banks and see if the code follows the sensor.

If you worked on the oil pump, then you need to make sure the connector to the oil pressure switch on the rear, plus the 2 connectors to the VTEC solenoid and VTEC oil switch on top of the oil filter are connected tight and not damaged. The oil pressure switch is especially easy to leave loose, it has a special connection. And did you happen to bump into the rear camshaft sensor connector? Having just worked on this a few months ago, it's very easy to mess up a connection back there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I went back in and checked the timing belt, and I found the timing belt was off by 1 tooth on one of the cams. I had a hard time getting the belt on the cams the first time I changed it, let alone getting the timing correct.

Now I got the timing belt on correctly, and the problem has not come back!
