Hey guys, so im looking to buy an 05 TL 6MT. The car is about 4 hours from me so I've yet to see it or drive it. I've asked the seller 21 questions worse than any gf lol. All seems good except CEL code P0336 crankshaft position sensor. The seller states the light turns on and off occasionally and the car runs just fine weather or not the light is on. He said he also has the part just hasn't installed and sent me a pic of it. Now my question is, does this sound normal for this code to trigger intermittently and turning off as well? Shouldn't this code cause the car to lose power or barely be driveable? I'm very new in the Acruca/TL fambut very happy to be joining you guys. If anyone can help id really appreciate it. I tried to a search but couldn't find any one having the same issues as I. Thanks for the help guys.

 

If he has the part, I'd make him replace it and get the car in good running order before considering the purchase.

The replacement of this crank sensor will involve removing the timing belt covers and crank pulley; therefore, one might as well do a full timing belt service while there depending on mileage, which is not stated.

Thanks for the reply. In the midst of talking to the owner of this car I came upon an 07 CBP TL-S 6MT with 150k on it. Not 3 hours away, only 30 mins and asking price was 4500. Perfect on the outside, 100% stock. 3rd gear is having some issues, seems like the timing belt is over due and also needs new brakes and rotors. With all that said I talked him down to 3k. I think i did good. Thanks again for the reply.

 

Just an FYI. The attached TSB may explain your third gear issue.

Others, on this forum, have changed the manual transmission oil to ACDelco 10-4014 Friction Modified Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid and had good results.

 

I’d jump on that 6MT! As said above, you could swap to the suggested fluid, and be fine!
