Change Brake Pads? When?

I have the brembos and have had the car for 24,000 miles. They have always squealed, however now there is a very little strange sound that I can not describe but it is not metal to metal. What is a sure way to tell when they are ready to be changed?

And can I change these out myself? Hawk pads?

The wear indicators will start producing metallic squealing noise when the pads are worn out. This will only happen when you apply the brakes.

It is very easy to change pads on the Brembo calipers. Take off the wheel, and you will see the cotter pin on the caliper. Take it out, and you can slide the pads right out.

I called Tire Rack to buy the Hawk Pads that I heard about. $125 shipped. That is great! I would like to install myself, however, after research it looks like there are two special tools needed. Something to remove the pins and something for the compressor? Any help? Are these needed?

Can you please explain in detail. I am also trying to change my brake pads. For the life of me cannot figure out how to get them off w/out cracking the caliper at the four hex bolts. But Once I do that brake fluid starts escaping from what appears to be some type of bleed hole or something. Your way seems like my motorcycle calipers but I tried to get the pins out they do not come out thate asily w/out romoving the rotor. Pls advise, really appreciate the help...

ok well here's the thing ... got my car in Feb. and it only has like 14000 miles on it, and my brakes are already squealing. I've tried cleaning them and have talked to a dealer and followed his directions on how to clean them and still nothing. Any other suggestions on how to get this to stop? It only happens when the brakes are first applied, after a little more pressure is added it stops.

You really need to do something about that cough.

And I have added it to the 3G Garage. We try to keep stickies down to the bare minimum.
