Lightbulb Center Consol Rattle Fix

I have been reading the posts that you guys have put up for about a month and am very impressed with what you have been saying. I have actually used some solutions posted here to fix some rattles.

I have an 2005TL A/T without Navi. I had an A4 before, and it never rattled. I puchased this TL in May as a certified pre-owned. It has probably been in the shop 8-10 times since then.

So, this is a simple solution to center consol rattles. About 3 times I went in complaining of rattles in the center consol. They replaced the metal strips running along either side of the consol, the plates over the shifter, the doos covering the storage areas, etc. I kept taking it in for the same problems. After getting so fed up with the incompetent dealer, I decided to fix it myself. When I was investigating, I discovered that the entire back-end of the center consol was loose and good swing a good half an inch in each direction from left to right. This was causing all the other rattles!

There are two screws located at the bottom of the large storage compartment beneath the arm rest in center consol. Make sure that these are tight. I fixed this two weeks ago and have not had a rattle coming from the center consol since then!

Please take a photos of these two screws and place it here.
I am about to sell my TL because it rattles all around.
Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up

Hi KennyC: Miss my A4. It was solid but a bit too cramped inside. It moved like a bat out of hell too..

Hi OppNYC:
Locate the center consol armrest.

Open the armrest to reveal the larger storage compartment

The two screws are located at the back on the bottom of this larger storage compartment. Its a 1 minute job to tighten them!

You mean to tell me that's all it was? My guess is the tech forgot to tighten the console after working on it. Maybe the rattle was indeed fixed by what they did, but by leaving the console loose on reassembly, they created another rattle. Possible?

Hi CobraGuy, you are probably right, but...after the last visit, they explicity said "Resecured Center Consol" on the invoice, but was clearly not secure!
