CEL Flashes when WOT.. Misfires in Engine?

The first time this happened was when I was doing a couple of runs at the track. I went WOT(WIde Open Throttle) and start noticing the CEL flashing. SO I let off the throttle and still does this. SO WTF is going on? Well, i did a few more runs and same thing happens. Nothing in the engine was showing any signs of smoke or any bad wear. So on my last run, I just held the throttle down to the floor, even while the CEL light was blinking and after the run, I look down and noticed that the CEL stayed on.

It didn't go away for a day or so and then I was a bit concerned so I took it to the dealer the next day. The guys ran the code and saw that it was the Cylinder Misfiring. And that was all, they took the code off and told me that since it was my first time, they wont charge me, but the next time I come back with the CEL light on, they will charge me to turn it off.

So everything's fine till I stomp the pedal to the floor going on the the highway(merging to the HW) and same light goes on, I leave it there and goes off after 2-3 days...

SO the question is, could it be my spark plugs? This happened at around 30k and now i am at 60k. Weird thing is, it comes on only once in awhile when i floor it. MOST of the time I floor it, this doesn't happen.

ONE MORE THING. The dealer guy blamed it on my INtake... First thing I thought of when he said that was, could it be that my car's a/f ratio is messed up due to the Intake?

TIA guys.

And o yea, I am still on my first set of spark plugs, that came stock with the car when it had 3 miles on it.

I am at 60,xxx miles now and I am considering on changing my spark plugs soon. Most likely be going with Iridiums, but don't know which kind. If anyone can list which kind I should get, please post up! I am in it for performance, so the best of the best would be perfect, as I do plan on taking it to the track real soon. =)

hey Donald, have u checked your oil if it's too low or course? I have this same exact code and problem in my rsx when the engine oil was low, so it wasn't lubing the pistons enough...not sure if it's the same but doesn't hurt to check

Check to see if the weld to the vibra-mount isn't broken on the cai. Other than that I don't know what's wrong.

I have the same issue -- it's been brought up several times before the forum .. it can happen with in SS mode and going WOT .. comes up once in a while --

Apparently there is a crankshaft sensor TSB that I saw a while ago (> 2 years ago) that somehow resolved this...

I wouldn't hesitate to pull the code, however, just to make sure it isn't something worse.

I joined the club yesterday for that Thanks AEM

Anyways, i was not throwing a code with that problem on the car, and did do a couple of WOTs on the freeway and such.

I can tell you that i have gotten that CEL on SS mode, at WOT only and only IF i let the rev limmiter hit and stay there for a few secs, of course, not on purpose, just by mistake when i noticed... 3 times different days but it'll usually go away in like 10 secs or less.

+1

My car was doing the exact same thing. Took it to the dealer for a reflash, and haven't had the problem since.

1 Hour, $52

It was over a year ago, coming from 680-101 south, I saw your lights and thought bye bye auto. Some how you passed me at hi speed. I was stock but the 6 speed is a monster in high revs so i couldn't believe you were abel to keep up much less pass. I only see grandmothers and asian women driving TL's, so modded ones stickout and I never see any.

lol, oo, that was a LONG time ago. It was fun. I remember u passed by me AGAIN on Blossom Hill. I heard a whine and i immediately knew it was a s/c TL. The whine's very unique.. I was the white/bronze TL at the light, about to make a left to Juicy Burger..

and o yea. i'm not new to the race scene btw... .. I have intake+exhaust. I was surprised myself, I thoguht u might've misshifted.

PS> I have beaten many cars that i shouldn't have beaten.

If its not the reflash that you need then A flashing CEL/MIL in the OBD2 world means the computer is trying to tell you a catalyst damaging fault is ocurring. So a misfire would be one of them.

I had the same problem in my 04 AT. They fixed it with a reflash update that was released by Honda/Acura.
