Also do a 3x3 on your ATF before it's too late. Don't assume it has been done unless you have documentation stating so.. You can also go by the color of the ATF, it should look like cherry syrup not chocolate milk.

is there a way to filter these threads out? i see stuff like this that has been answered a million times before every day. it really junks up the forum when the info is right there in the FAQ or 3G garage.

Hey you know what. I actually watched a documentary on the old planes of WW1 or WW2. It was when they had Propellers. And that was one of their complaints about 1 plane that when it started, it was hard to start and it ran terribly rough and they could not take off from the Ship until it warmed up. But when they preheated the oil, the viscosity was more free, and then the plane started MUCH easier and it rans much smoother and they could go to battle faster. So, basically, I think a thinner oil may be a good idea for startup. The smaller the number, the thicker it is, right? like 5w is thicker than 20w.. right? That may work!

I dont think so - this has to do with heating up the cats and is controlled by the ecu.

well we don't know what oil Rob is running since he just bought the car but since he says it quiets down when it gets op temp that would indicate his low temp viscosity is too thin and when it gets to op temp viscosity everything is smooth.. so a higher viscosity might be in order.. but running a good synthetic 5w20 could resolve the issue as well. It might be related to the oil pressure as well so running a good filter will guarantee startup pressure and decent filtration.

I'm just guessing. You never know, it could be a lean condition at startup? whatever it is, when these TL's were new it didn't happen. So who knows.

on initial startup but not for minutes until the engine is warmed up. Rob's issue sounds unrelated to the engine spitting some fuel into the primaries.
