Car Lurches
Car Lurches
I found an old thread for the 2nd gen autos but want to introduce this thread to the 3rd gen to see what feedback you guys have. There was no resolve back in 2003 but is there more info now?
I have an '07 TL type S with a lurching issue. When I am in idle about every 60 seconds I can feel the cars need to lurch. I do not see any change in the RPMs and know that my auto air is always on.
The service center I take my car to just notified me that they ARE NOT aware of this issue and just want me to drop it off so they can go through it. I really don't want to waste my time.
What do you guys know?

Here's a WAG (wild ass guess):
Try the switch for the AC to make the display read AC off.
If that makes it go away, it's the AC compressor cycling on and off.
The computer can't instantly compensate for the reduced load and hence extra rpm when the compressor turns off, so the car wants to lurch if you have a light touch on the brake pedal.
It's normal for the AC compressor to cycle on and off.
Hope that's it...
Mike

Deat De Dee....sandynmike...we understand normal A/C cycling.
07TLSDriver we do know what you are experiencing. My wife and I have A 04 with 34K mile and recently took the TL to Acura Dealer for the same issue....They found nothing??surprise. When at a stoplight it almost feels like you get tapped from the rear by another vehicle...It just started happening this last summer. The A/C never did this before and it does not happen all the time. If fact we had asked the dealer specifically to check the A/C components and the A/C charge level etc...they could not reproduce.

Ive been noticing the same problem with my 06, though I havent noticed if the ac is on or not when it happens, at first I thought it was my foot tapping the throttle with the side of my boot while sitting at a light, when I disprooved that I then thought it was transmission related....but the ac clutch disengaging makes sense too, I will have to look into that.
Every time you used your defrost in the winter you were on A/C
Thats how they keep it from going bad- forced useage by consumer!
It may be related to vacuum changes if vent doors change position
and the brakes sense the change in their booster supply pressure and respond
But what do I know I am a gen 2 thread jumper
Good Luck!

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a few dumb questions about the A/C. I use to have an Integra, so excuse the ignorance (not sure where my manual is)
1. Exactly what does putting the A/C in "AUTO" mean?
2. I remember reading somewhere that the A/C is always on (or something related to the A/C is always on). If this is true, how do you turn it off?
3. Also, what's happening when the A/C is on, but there's no visual indication of your current fan speed or "AUTO"?

Did anyone find it was something other than the AC compressor cycling?
Trini, 'Auto' refers to the automatically controlling the air delivery, the temperature, and the fan speed to maintain the temperature you set. The manual has full details.

2. Yes, the A/C is always on. You can turn it off by pushing the A/C button on the right side of the controls.
3. You will never have an indication of fan speed, direction of air, etc when in "Auto" mode. The system will take care of it for you. The A/C has to be on to effectively control temperature in the cabin. If you have the A/C off you are just using the air from outside at whatever the current air temperature is. Obviously that won't be effective if you have an air temperature of 85 outside and you want the inside of the car to be 75.

I've also noticed a not so pleasant smell coming from the vents when I first put it on...I remember reading somewhere about chaning the cabin air filter...I think it's that.

Even if you just hit the "^" on the fan speed it should also turn the A/C on as well. Remember the only way that the A/C is off is when you use the A/C button on the right side. You'll know when the A/C is off because it will say it in the display.
Yeah there have been a couple threads about a bad smell coming from the ventilation system. Do a search on that, there are some helpful tips.
