Car Acts "Odd" After Dead Battery
Ok maybe this will help me with the surging problem ive had ever since owning the car.
So, this afternoon i get in my car to go to work and the battery is dead. So we jump it, then when i get in it and start driving to work the car is a completely different animal. No surging that im ever so used to, no need to give it gas when going in reverse, no jerking when accelerating, much smoother power band all together.
While all of this is happening, all my dash lights are on. Traction, VSA?, SES, ABS, etc... The weird thing is, this is what i remember from when i test drove it the first time, and at that time it was just jumped too.
This is not in my head, my roomate noticed, and he was in the passenger seat.
Now after it sat at work for 8 hours, i get in, and all the lights and codes are gone and its back to its rough self
If i can get it to act like it was earlier i may not have such the urge to sell this thing. Oh, and my stupid PS whine when away. (I know thats the o-ring)
Ideas? Comments? Concerns?
Thanks,
Garrett

I believe the ECU resets every time the battery is dis- and reconnected, and that's how you feel the car's response is so much better... After it learns your driving style though, it'll go back to its old self.
Solution? Probably an ECU reset every time, if you want to keep that feel.
I hope somebody more knowledgeable can chime in on this though - not 100% sure!

These cars with all the electronic controls are very sensitive to voltage deviations, and if the car has been dead a couple of times that might be an indication that something is amiss. First I would get a new battery or at least have the battery tested unless jumping the battery is the preferred way of starting the car.
