Okay cool. Because those are the O-rings i already ordered but when they came the receipt said theyre for an Oil pump so i wasnt too sure. But theyre probably just a universal part. Thanks alot.
Tried this once before but it still leaked.
second time appears to be the charm.
advice - put o ring in freezer for 4 hours to stiffen it. Use a lot of grease on plate and where plate is inserted.
gotta be careful not to pinch or rip the o ring when installing. Freezer plus a sh*t ton of grease!
8 months later and seal is leaking again. Not a huge amount....but enough to bother my OCD.
question: if I do this for the 3rd time, I am going to also use some type of sealant or permatex.......unless you good folks talk me out of it. Thoughts??????????
You shouldn't use any sealant on o-rings or rubber gaskets. Only times when I believe in putting silicon on the gasket is if gasket is paper or surface is pitted / damaged from corrosion.
Put some oil, grease, assembly goo on the o-ring before inserting to prevent damage to the o-ring.
Sometimes, a clogged pcv valve will put pressure on oil seals. If you have not had yours replaced, I would check to see if it is still good (takes less than five minutes to remove and check).

Thank you for reply. I'll get a new PCV today since it's inexpensive and easy to change.
I have concerns that maybe the thrust plate or surface is scuffed - my mechanic warned me of this too.
My problem is - do I try again for third time or have mechanic do it?
I mean, it's easy to do, but obviously I'm not doing it well / effective.
I used a lot of grease. I put o ring in freezer. I was careful when installing. I took my time. Yet I guess I am not good at this task.......
I just did my front cam cap seal and replaced the temperature sensor. It took longer finding a 12mm socket that was short and not too thick than anything else. I think a 15/32 socket may work ok if you do not have a 12mm.
I did exactly like like the Video with a few exceptions.. (The EGR comes off really easy).
After I removed the screws on the cam cap, I tapped the cap around the circle about 1/2 inch or so, just like the video.
But I used a large Hook on the bottom edge to try and pry it out straight.
When reinstalling the cap, I tapped it directly inward on the center of the cap very lightly with a hammer, so that I didnt force the cap in any picular positions and it went it pretty easy. It is not pressed as tight as a ball joint..
I also did not use silicone. I just used a little bit of oil that was already inside the cap. Just use you finger and get it wet, and spread it around the new o-ring.
The old o-ring was hard and didnt want to stretch off the cap. But the new one was very easily to install.
Note: 1 of the EGR bolts is right smack in the way. So I used an extension that has a "Rounded tip" so it swivels. I bought it at harbor frieght. (see pic)
