A/C Compressor dying

not really posting this for help, just posting as some info

my 05 TL has an A/C compressor on it's way out. Basically when the car is running with the A/C in auto mode or on it sounds like a diesel engine, when you start to accelerate it sounds as if i have a supercharger on the car. When it's turned off or when the compressor isn't running the car sounds just like it did when i bought it.

like i said no real point in posting this, just a little fyi if you have the same issue.

I would probably take care of that before the clutch locks up and your belt rubs itslef into pieces...(happened to my old truck)

If it's not making the sound when the A/C is off, then the clutch is fine. With the A/C off, the clutch pulley will spin and the compressor is not activated, so no bearing noise, not the clutch. If it makes the noise when the A/C compressor is activated, the clutch is energized and the entire assembly spins at one speed. Normally the clutch bearing will fail causing noise or complete destruction to the pulley assembly and won't lock up, it's the compressor that locks up and then the belt spins around the pulley. A noisy compressor normally requires quite a bit of work to make certain contaminants are flushed, or removed from the system before installation of just a new compressor, as other components should be replaced at the same time.

yeah, a bunch of parts need to be replaced at the same time. eventually when i get the chance it will all be changed at once
