A/C Compressor
A/C Compressor
Okay guys,
something wrong with my A/C system , the heater is working fine blows hot but the a/c is different story when i'm on the highway and i'm running my car at 3.5 rpm it blows very cold but once i'm in city below 2.5 rpm it blows cold just for -10-15 min than I'm gonna hear the "click sound" like something is switching and then it blows just normal air. Also when my A/C is blowing cold - I can feel very little vibration but after the click no vibration and it's blowing hot air. - it feels like it's falling asleep..
I'm about to do the timing belt right now cuz i hit 100k miles and i was wondering if I'm supposed to replace the A/C compressor itself ... or that is just a freezing liquid that needs to be added to my A/C system? I found a very good deal on a used but oem compressor from 07 tl with 65 k miles.. the guy lets it go for 100$. Should i buy it and replace it?

Also, if there is a low charge, there is a leak, so find and repair rather than just adding refrigerant.
I had a similar situation when my A/C was over charged. I for got to turn my A/C on full, and that's why it originally read low.
You can get a cheap DIY charge kit that comes with a gauge for under $20. Mind you the gauge is definitely not professional quality, it seems to work well enough.

And in the unlikely event you do need to replace the compressor, the Denso OEM that the stealerships get $600+ for is available from rockauto.com for around $210. And that's new, not rebuilt.
