Buzzing coming from relay on start. HELP!

When I turn my key from the second to third position a buzzing is coming from the fuse box under the drivers side. After a few tries the the car will start. I already tried to replace the relay and it didnt fix it. Please help I can not figure this out.

sure... when i turn the key from the second key position to the third to start the car there is a buzzing coming from the drivers side fuse box. it is loud and the car will not start. once i turn the key back and try again it will sometimes do it again or it will start. I tried turning the key with my head next to the fuse box and the sound was deffenetly coming from there. Sounds to me like a electrical buzzing

I have this exact problem too. From everything I've read its a Honda thing and you have to turn the key fast from all the way off to start. This goes against every car I've ever owned where you click it to "on" to let the fuel pump prime. But if I go from Off -Start. it works. I still want to know WHY it does this and no other car I've had does. I would very much so like a fix if there is one.

Maybe it's a problem with the lock cylinder on the steering column...heavy keychains can cause problems over time.

I've experienced the buzzing on my Accord. It happens because of the way the lock cylinder/ignition switch works. The key sometimes gets stuck between the "ignition on" and "start" contacts, causing the relay to buzz.

I've never experienced anything more than a brief instance of buzzing, though.

^since you have an 04, the mechanism has probably sustained some amount of wear. You could replace it, but they're atleast $200 and you might be stuck with two different keys for the doors and ignition.

I wouldn't, unless you start having issues like the OP.

well I do have some issues often. but i think its mostly from habit of letting it prime. It just grates me to go from the first position straight to the cranking.

I always let it prime.

If you let it prime, do you always get the buzzing? Do you ever have to turn the key back to "off" before you can start the car?

If I turn it really fast from prime I usually don't have the problem, sometimes it still does and I just turn it all the way back and all the way forward very quickly and it starts. It just seems really temperamental but if there is a part to replace to cure this I'd probably do it in a heartbeat.

You could try lubricating the ignition cylinder. I think Honda specs dry graphite lubricant for all of its lock cylinders...I'll have to confirm.

I may have found the problem your talking about. I'm about to change the part now.. it's a starter cut relay I removed it and turned the key and the buzzing stopped.
