Brake Issues
My brakes make a loud horrible screeches at low speeds, already took it to the shop they replaced the pads and disc but it seems to keep coming back, anyone else have this problem and a fix?
I changed the pads on my 07 TL and resurfaced the rotors but the noise wouldn't go away after about 2-3k miles it went. It just the pads you have some pads are quiet from the get go. It should go away after some time
Brake pads need a burn in period, the procedure is to do this right after they're changed or very soon after they're changed. Find a low populated area like a parking lot at night or a quiet industrial area with lots of flat.
I always spray the hell out of the brakes just before starting this, drive around at about 35mph, stopping moderately to about 5mph and continuously do this about 10 times without cool down, proceed to do this again from 45mph with heavy braking to 5mph and do this 5 times, now drive around slowly, around 20mph for about 5 minutes to let the brakes cool down and do not use the brakes (this is why a big open and empty parking lot is a good idea), after you've done the 10 slow stops from 35 and the 5 hard stops from 45 and drove around at 25 for 5 minutes, park the car, do not use the hand brake, if its manual just leave it in gear to prevent rolling, and go walk to a coffee shop or something leaving it inactive for about a half hour or longer to cool, once you're back at your car spray it again with brake clean to get out all of that brake dust and have a slow calm drive home, squeaking should be gone, I just did this to my TL about 20 minutes ago and the squeaking is gone. I also did this to my Moms Pilot a few months ago and its been good since.
This procedure is also called Bed-In Procedure and its used highly in racing applications because squeaking is actually a sign of poor brakes not contacting the rotor correctly, this can also result in uneven brake lines or groves in the rotor because the surface of the pad and surface of the rotor are different. Once the brakes are cooled down more I'm going to go wash the car so the brake dust (if any) and brake clean are washed off my wheels.
Make sure you do NOT apply the brake clean to the brakes while they're hot, brake clean is flammable and spraying cold liquid on hot brakes will warp the rotor.
Another tip, when spraying the brake clean, just spray it on top of the caliper trying to get it to drip down both sides of the brakes (as there's a pad on both sides) and continue spraying until it drips out the bottom.
