Blown Head gasket - Is my warranty voided?

Ok so purchased this 2007 TL-S back 10k miles ago at 45k miles. It not currently has 55,532 miles on it. I read that the power train warranty is 6yr/70k miles...

The other day I smelled something funny and checked my coolant over flow tank and sure enough, there was oil inside of it which almost always means a blown head gasket...

Mods that I have are AEM V2, RV6 PCD, RV6 Jpipe, 3rd cat delete, and XLR8 exhaust.

Will having these modifications void my factory power train warranty? Luckily I work for a Honda dealer and they are taking a look at it as we speak to try and figure out the culprit, if so and im still under factory warranty, im gonna have it taken across the street to the Acura dealer for them to repair. Otherwise if its not covered under warranty, ill have the service center here do it for a discounted price.

Thanks in advance, any advice input will help!

If you have the stock parts, I would throw them back on, just so they won't give you any problems.

I have everything minus the catback, but id rather not replace them seeing as that is going to be a solid 8 hours of work to put everything back on, then when everything is finished, re install everything again. I just did some research and found the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act which states that the dealer must prove that the modifications installed were a direct cause of the failure.

Just put everything back to stock. and good luck with that Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act if you decide to go on that. Going to be a while since they need to "investigate it"

Could get dicey, but I'd give it a shot just the way it sits. Some dealers are more tolerant than others regarding mods.

If they don't cover it, it'd be less work to just change the gasket rather than swapping everything back to stock, then re-installing everything. Time is money, and it'd be more cost effective to just pay someone to change the gasket. If you work at a Honda dealership, it shouldn't be hard to befriend one of the mechanics.

Is blown head gasket common on our cars? I just wonder how it happened?

You might want to confirm it's a blown headgasket first. I know oil in the coolant can be a sign but unless you're the original owner you never know what was done to the car to cause this.

Any other symptoms such as a misfire, water in the oil, a sweet smell or steam out of the exhaust? If oil is getting into the coolant and it's due to a blown headgasket, coolant is definitely getting into the oil with the pressure that it's under. It's probably a blown HG but it's worth it to investigate a little more.

Are you sure that your vehicle is still covered under the original warranty?

The warranty starts when the vehicle is delivered to the first owner; this could have occurred in 2006, which would mean your warranty has expired.

Can the dealer report missing catalytic converters to whatever pollution control agency is in your area?

The dealer will do everything in its power to say that you voided your warranty (ask me how I know). I'd return the car back to stock as much as you can to avoid the headache.

Just had a technician at my work do a complete coolant flush on the car. No signs of a blown head gasket as of yet. The coolant was a deep brown color, which normally would be more of a milkshake color if it were blown and over heating. Once the flush was done, the new coolant didnt bubble out with chunks or make a film at the top of the reservoir or the funnel. Also the oil level inside the motor was just fine, wasnt low at all. The brown stuff inside the coolant was more stick than anything. We are thinking it was a coolant conditioner or the wrong coolant put in by the previous owner/ whoever they had work on it.

Im gonna drive it a bit more, watch the coolant every 50 miles or so and keep an eye on the temp gauge. Hopefully it was just bad coolant/conditioner in the motor and that issue is gone now. Will keep everyone updated.

Try a compression test, and you could check the plugs for oil or coolant. Also some shops have a hydrocarbon detector to detect oil in the coolant. If it is a blown head gasket I would put it back to stock... 8hrs of work sucks but you could also possibly spend 8hrs or more pulling your heads if the dealer refuses to cover it. Thats the tricky thing with modding... you gotta pay to play!
