Unhappy Biggest idiot checking in....help a brother out!

I can't believe I'm actually post this. I ordered a set of the 6000k Kaixen bulbs for my 07 TL-S from Excelerate's last groupd buy. I was pumped when they got here, but had to wait until today to put them. The problem I'm having is that I can't acutally figure out how to do this. I printed out a post from Azine that looked step by step of how to do it. It was actually for the 04-06 TL. I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the stock bulbs and put the new ones in. Can you experts please give me a few hints. I'e replaced bulbs in many Fords in the past and never had this much difficulty figuring it out.

Disclaimer- I am gen2 and guessing the gen3 are same
there is a cover on the back of the housing- held on by 2 Torx #20 security screws
remove those and then the electrical connector comes off- the spring clip the holds the bulb in place comes unlock and open up- remove bulb- insert new bulb EXACTLY the way the old one came out- with the external electrode in the same position- do not twist the bulbs during install-
wear latex or rubber gloves to protect the bulbs from your skin oils.
Look in the DIY section for better info with pics- gen2 has it- yours should too

the post that I printed out helped out some. It said to remove the inner wheel well liner to gain acess to the back of the housing where the torx screws would be. From there it seemed pretty simple. The thing is that I could not find any torx screws on the housing. I even removed the plastic engine cover to see if it would allow me to find the torx screws. No such luck. I guess the main thing is that i can't figure out how to get the back of the housing off to gain acess to the bulb itself.

I only attempted the passenger side.

Just to be clear: You're changing our HEADLIGHT bulbs right? Not fogs?

the torx screw is hard to find, its in the corner of the cover, and the plastic housing

good idea, take your camera.. stick it in there, flash a photo.. and look to see where the screw is... a small flat head will help you remove it (its a tamper-proof torx screw)

its a pain in the ASS putting those bulbs in though.... sticking your hand in there and jiggling around, trying not to touch the glass or bump the bulbs into anything

I just looked at the service manual. It says to change the bulbs, you remove the bumper and headlight assemblies!!! Holy shit.

Bearcat94- yeah I'm trying to replace the headlight bulbs. Looking inside the fender well it seems as if the other lights will much more accessible and easy to change.

Omnuts- that thread is the one I printed out. pretty good directions. Like I previously stated the main problem is that I can't find the torx screws.

Nothing is wrong with them. I just wanted a brighter light. A different look.

How hard is it to remove the headlight assemblies if the bumper has been removed? I have a famil yfriend with a body shop that could take the bumper off for me at little if any cost.

dude, you can take the bumper off in... 10 minutes.. with a phillips head, 10mm socket wrench and a flathead to help pop the body clips off

then, the headlights come off in 5 minutes each. just need a 10mm socket wrench + a good like 8" extension

i actually find it better to take the bumper off.. ive been experimenting with different headlight bulbs lately, and going in through the fender is just a pain in the ass... always worried your gonna touch the bulb or drop it or something

I finally managed to get my new 6000k bulbs in. Taking that front bumper off was a SERIOUS pain in the ass. Took me a lot longer than I wanted it to, but it's all good. They look real good. I haven't had a chance to drive with the lights on yet. Hopefully they'll both be pointing straight ahead and not one up/one down. thanks for the advice Blackura_NY.

adjusting the beam height is easy as hell.. find a nice 25ft flat ground with a white wall.... you then stick a screwdriver (larger phillips head) into the adjustment hole, and twist.. the actual measuring schematic is somewhere on the forum..... something like..... measure from the ground to the center of the headlight, and the light on the wall 25ft away should be either 2inches high or 2 inches lower... search, its on the forum

Just to be correct...
They're NOT brighter. They actually output LESS light. They're just more blue.

For every 1000K you go up in color temperature, you loose about 100 lumens of output typically...
