Possibly a bad battery cable connection-- check the cable clamps on the battery and connections on the other side (starter and ground).

Also can be a bad starter-- hit the starter with a metal bar or hammer while cranking. If the starter then starts, it's a bad starter.

Or corroded connection, take then off and clean both the clamp and the posts .

Agree with others in this post. It's likely either the battery or the starter.

Make sure connections to the battery are clean (free of corrosion) and tight (no movement).
Check the same for the other end of the battery cables.
How old is the battery??
Dashboard lights up completely and normally??
Follow what Will Y mentioned above regarding the starter.
