Belt squeel on my TLS...

Anybody else have any problems with noisy belts when the car is first warmed up? My TL-S has like 12,500 miles on it, and is already squeaking when I start it. It goes away after about 30 seconds.

Anybody have this? Think I can just tighten them up, and fix the problem, or replace them?

The belts have a spring tensioner; you can't adjust the tension.
Something is wrong; have the dealer fix it.

I don't think you can tighten .. there is no adjustment. You sure its the belt not a component? Take it to the dealer.

WD40 and belt dressing are VERY temporary fixes, neither work for long and they actually dry the belt which could lead them to split/crack. Believe it or not (I was skeptical till I tried it on one of my cars) use tire dressing. It works immediately and lasts for weeks longer than the WD40 or belt dressing and it won't dry the belt out. This is not a long term/permanent fix either.......just figured I'd share.

I was only kidding on the wd-40, however the bearing in the tensioner pulley are prone to make noise. There is no adjusting it, fact is you have a warranty USE IT. I would!

When you start it or when you first try to steer it? If its the latter it could be air in the steering pump lines. Bad O ring can cause air to get into the line.

You think they'll reject the warranty claim of a BELT, due to the intake?

Can't they only reject it for something that would have directly caused it?

He guys,

Is it possible that it's not the belt at all, and actually a pulley or pulley bearing that may be going bad? The belt looks like it's in brand new shape, so I'm thinking possibly something else?

I had the tensioner pulley go bad in my other car... It sounds horrible when it's bad... I replaced it myself... Nice and quiet....

But the replacement part, (even though it was a factory replacement), self destructed a few months later... I went to open the hood with the engine idling.... And before I lifted the hood, I heard a BAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG.... Opened the hood, and the belt wasn't spinning... I saw the tensioner pulley... All that was left was the bolt. The rest of the pulley was missing. It literally shredded itself. I'm guessing the bearings siezed or were very tight, and the pulley overheated and self destructed. Dealer couldn't believe it when I brought it back in.

Crap!

I'm just worried they're going to give me guff over the intake, although that should have NO impact on the belt, or the pulley systems. I really don't want to have to take it off, reverse everything... then reinstall it again... ugghhh...

I need to find a "cool" dealer. It's just a f***ing intake, afterall.

Well do this:

Remove your serpentine belt. Then spin the tensioner by hand... It should spin freely. (It takes 2 seconds to remove the belt from the tensioner)

If the tensioner binds, then it's what's causing the noise.... Now if it's the tensioner pulley.... Just buy a new one at the dealer... When I bought mine, the pulley was something like 8 bucks or something like that. You can probably even pick one up from napa....

Sure you would be under warranty, but if it's a hassle with your intake, the part is less than 10 bucks.

What's the easiest way to remove the belt? Is it an easy job?

Yeah, should be... I've never done it on our 3G TL, but if it's anything like our old 2G TL, there is a bolt on the tensioner which should be near the Alternator. Just put a ratchet on it, and turn. The nut won't turn, but it will compress the spring, releiving pressure from the belt, so you can just slide it off the pulley.
