Cool Battery replaced, radio doesn't work

My husband replaced the battery and now radio doesn't work on my 2004 TL. I put the code number in as directed, but this did not help. I called the dealer and the lady told me I needed to disconnect and then reconnect the battery again. Which we did, but when I put the code in again, it now reads erre and the radio still doesn't work.

Does the TL have a Navigation system?
If yes, then there are two codes-- one (4 digits) for the Navi and one (5 digits) for the radio.

Sounds like the wrong code. When did the three beeps happen? After you entered in the 3rd or 4th number?

I would call the dealer with your VIN and radio serial number and verify that the code you have is correct.

To get the radio serial:

With the radio turned off press and hold the 1 and 6 preset keys.
While holding them both down turn the radio on.

The radio should display the radio serial number in to parts.
The first four numbers and then the second 4 numbers.
Write them down.

I did successfully put the navigation code in & it works. I think the beeps did come after the third number and I think you are correct that the original number no longer seems to be correct. However, when I called the Accua dealer with the serial number they gave me the same code number. So, this is where I am now, but I really appreciate your response. Unless anyone has other ideas, it looks like I will be forced to take to the dealer.

the only thing i can think of is disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes n retrying...the radio code shouldnt change, but it wont accept the right code after a few bad attempts. may need to reset it in order to get it to accept the code.

Def a code issue.

It is in the owner's manual or the coin tray. It can also be in the glovebox or under the armrest.

As soon as you put in the first proper number, a "C" should appear in the display (to replace "Err"), followed by "O," etc.-- for "CODE"-- until the fifth number, when the radio beeps a couple of times to indicate it's active.
Just did it myself a few minutes ago after the battery was replaced.

^ If you get a couple beeps before the fifth number, the code is incorrect/entered incorrectly.

Had this problem more than once. You have to disconnect the Radio Antenna from the back of the unit and reconnect and re-enter code. Ther are other posts about this on this forum. I have also heard that if you go to an underground garage and find a spot where there is NO radio signal this can be done. BTW, the dealer charges $100 for the re-set. Good Luck

^ Sweet first post!

Doesn't disconnecting the battery do the same thing as disconnecting the antenna? There's no signal going to the radio with the battery unplugged.

Okay, I now have my radio going and appreciate all your help! I left the battery cable off overnight and tried entering all the numbers again for the radio and navigation system this morning and both worked immediately. Thank you all.
