Battery installed backwards...help please

I know im a bone head. it was late at night i was in a hurry and i installed my battery backwards. Positive to negative and negative to positive. When i installed it that way i heard a weird humming noise coming from around the engine....It was soo late i thought the new battery was charging and left it there for like 5 or 10 minutes. i put the battery the correct way And now power does not work at all. The horn works but thats it. I took the battery to autozone to test it and it is fully charged still.

I am in desperate need of help. I just has a baby and I am soo short on money. How can i resolve this problem? Please help! Thanks

You shorted out the car. it could have blown some fuses, or worse...fried the ECU.

I would check ALL fusible links. if you still aren't able to find the burnt fuse, then it would be time to take it to A) The dealer B) A mechanic that specializes in electronic ghost.

I did a simple search on google.
"installed battery backwards"

Everything that I found, suggested that you shorted something out...whether it be a fuse or something more.

Check all fusible links = anywhere that has a fuse...check it.
electrical ghost = electrical problems that you cant see or find.

I have no idea on the cost.

You could have fried a lot of things, all the way from the ECU to connections to the alternator. If you don't know what you're looking for, chances are you aren't going to find it.

The bad news is, this could be a really expensive repair, depending on what was damaged.

This.

Follow the cables from the battery.. see where they go. Get to testing.

Negative goes to ground. Positive goes to the underhood fusebox and the starter. Check all of those fuses---especially the battery fuse, as that is the one that would blow first. The problem is you said the horn works, which would indicate that the battery fuse is still good and you blew something else.
Good luck.

sounds like you blew the ecu. this has happened to my old car when the retarded mechanic installed the battery backwards. he kept telling me it was a relay he and had to order and it was my fault for having an aftermarket alarm. dumbass. towed it to an auto electric shop and they figured out the problem in 2 days. fried ecu. price? $1350.

Tow truck --> Shop

Sorry to say if it isn't something simple like a fuse/link you could have smoked any number of things all throughout the car. You'll probably be hard pressed to find it on your own.

How did you get the leads to reach without really having to work hard at it?

Don't know if it's too late, but there are two diodes that may have blown. Don't want to get your hopes up, but one of them protects the power source for the ECM/PCM:

A/C Diode A (in underhood fusebox). Protects fuse #30 in underdash fusebox and fans. See if fuse #30 has power.

A/C Diode B (under left side of dash)

i wouldn't doubt it did more damage than a few fuses.

Did you ever find the problem? Was it a blown battery fuse (#22 under the hood)?

Solution......... the 120/70 fuse inside the fuse box under the hood. You have to unscrew fuse in order to remove it. Relace this fuse and your issue will be resolved. The fuse cost $10 @ advance auto or you can find it at the dealer.

For future reference

On my car, it's impossible to wire the battery backward because the cables won't reach the terminals if the battery is oriented wrong.

Perhaps cutting your cable lengths could prevent this from happening again.

acura tsx 2012 battery installed backward

i went through the posts and found that not all acura models react the same way. Just in case some one does as i did with my acura tsx 2012, here are the incidents and solutions that i went through.
incident: installed battery backwards; side lights went off and the ecu started whining till i disconnected the battery as i discovered that it was hooked up wrong.
fuse : its a dual fuse that has 100amp/40 amp (specific to this model) was burnt.. not really visible as it was a slight break
location: fuse box next to the engine/air filter

100/40 amp fuse acura tsx 2012

action: 8mm socket wrench was used to take off the two flat hex head screws(do not use screw drivers) and was replaced
this specific fuse was not readily available at the dealership so had to be ordered, not sold by autozone/oreilys
Good luck.. do not panic.

Second problem: radio turns on but no sound from the speaker

Scenario:
so after getting the car running, had to call the dealership to unlock the radio/navigation through the codes: (easy fix : self done, no charge)
but there was no sound through the speakers while the radio turns on and connects to the bluetooth and what else what not..

Kudos to the engineer who designed the electronic circuit in the ACURA TSX 2012 ;
There are three fuses in the vehicle regarding the stereo system, 2 for the radio and 1 for the stock amp
radio fuses are in the fuse boxes one in the hood, the other below the steering wheel and fuse for the ample is in the third box/spot below the passenger dash section, more towards the door.
The cap to this third section how ever is a slider that pops in and out as we slide it towards the seat.
Given that there was no sound but the radio was working, it must be the third fuse below the passenger dash or could be the wiring from the radio to the speakers/amp
in my case it was just the 20 amp mini fuse located in slot 15 in the above mentioned third fuse box.

20 amp mini fuse for the stereo amp location 15
used a plier to take it off and put a fresh one back in.
It worked well thereforth.
I hope this helped people with the similar problem.

Same (bonehead) thing happened to me. Your 120/70 fuse was indeed the solution. Thank you!!
