2004 Acura TL - HID Unit
2004 Acura TL - HID Unit
Hey AZ,
So yes I have browsed through every relevant thread possible to diagnose my issue.
My car's HID system has been acting really funky lately. Started about a month ago. I noticed one night my passenger side HID turned off. So I turn it off and back on, it came back on. Suddenly I noticed both of my HID turned off. I do the same thing, I turn it off and back on. Driver side stayed on, but passenger side came on momentarily then turned off. This repeated itself until the next day where the passenger side never came back on. I had spare bulbs laying around so I just put a new bulb in and it worked.
But then two weeks later, the passenger side did the same thing. This time it just flickers then dies. It would come on afterwards, but it would just keep flickering then dying. Well I already bought another TL guy's set of headlights before then because I wanted to get rid of the amber and chrome housing and it came with new ballasts, bulbs, and igniters for a very good deal, so I figured well maybe this will solve everything. Installed and I thought everything was fixed.
THEN this happens now. The same problematic side (mostly passenger side) would flicker or turn off everytime the car encounters a bump severe enough to upset it somewhere. I took everything off and looked for anything that might be off to my untrained eye and noticed nothing, so I figure until I can research more or find something I guess just live with it for now? That is until yesterday, my HID on passenger side refuses to turn on now. It just decided to die even though there was no bump.
Now guys, I have pretty much got new hardware (since it came with the new modded headlights I got for a good deal). I refuse to take this car to a shop because I am sure they will charge me out of the rear end for it. I want to see if I can look elsewhere because I don't want to assume that my hardware is to blame for here (yet) and realize this recent HID issue is occurring when car goes over unavoidable bumps that are strong enough at least to upset some connection somewhere. Where are some other grounds/connections I can look for (especially passenger side but driver side too since that part does have some similar issues but not as frequent)?
Your guys' input would be very helpful since I feel like this isn't a case (yet) of simply bad hardware (faulty igniter, ballast, bulb). If it helps, the ballasts are a different code than the one I got from my car.
The specs match each other, but on the bottom-right the ones I have currently say: X6T02971 1X02.
Thank you AZ, happy 3G TL.

check the fuses for the headlamps and make sure it's firmly seated. Also check your turn signal stalk for looseness. My fog switch on the stalk is loose and can switch the fogs on/off over bumps these days :/
Interesting, going to see if the turn signal chalk is loose. I checked fuses and they are all good.
