ball joint leaking?
I just got an alignment done and the shop said the ball joints in the front need to be replaced...
i just dropped the car on some tein s techs last weekend
i have abt 24k miles on the car
after market rims...with 10mm spacer...
how did this happen?
is it from lowering the car, or from spacers?
Can i get acura to cover this?

Alignment shop said it need to be replaced? Why didnt you let them do it... I know my acura dealer wouldnt cover it, and then I would have to get it aligned again.![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)
In my experience those ball joints its clumsiness that cuts stuff. Who did the install? What about your brakes, who did those? Was there a problem at install time? Did the installer not see it?
Maybe my terminology is wrong... There are 3 ball joints. Upper, lower and one attached to the tie-rod.. Which one its bad?

A torn boot can be from freeway debris
Its something you are supposed to look for on oil service- check the rubber cv boots, steering, etc
When the boot opens, grease leaks out and dirt gets sucked into the remaining grease.
Thats like sand in the joint as it tries to move and operate!
It will cause problems
Its NOT likely from the wheels unless there ii a serious clearance problem, or just lowering it should not have caused it
See if its cracked, torn, or cut and how recent the grease stain is
Possibly damaged during shock install- things happen~
Check the other side of the car- any looseness in that mate?

Smart move, many years ago at NTW (now NTB) the technician told me while trying to align my 1989 Legend it needed lower front ball joints. They felt fine to me, but I replaced them myself anyway. I inspected them off the car, there was no play in them what so ever.
If the boots are torn you can replace just the boot, I've done that before many times on older Honda/Acura's. You clean out the joint with brake cleaner, air dry and regrease. Unless you had a accident or struck a curb at speed, I doubt the ball joints are bad. I've worked on few Honda/Acura's with 200K miles and the ball joints had zero play also.

WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW...
got a call from my service advisor..."i dont know what those fucks told ya at the alignment shop, but there aint nothing wrong with those joints, no play in them whatsoever, if there was, i have no problem throwing some warranty parts at it for you, but we get audited on those warranty claims, if i show them the old part and they say nothings wrong, i dont get paid by acura on it, but if you have any issues, bring it right on back and we'll fix it for you under warranty"
I left a nasty msg for the service manager at NTB where I got my alignment...
Problem solved...
