Automatic Lag

Has anyone had any problems with the automatic transmission. I push on the gas and it takes WAY TOO much time for the vehicle to respond. Is there anything that can be done?

I notice this at highway speeds like 60-70 mph. I push the pedal down slightly and nothing happens unless it downshift to 4th which i dont want. I just want it to accelerate progressively from 5th and it does accelerate too slow from the input. I guess its just the lack of torque down low. But the car is responsive from a stand still and no lag at all.

Yeah. It's the damn Drive By Wire eletronic throttle sensor system being slow to react. The worse is when you are on an incline, it takes a split second for the tranny to put power to the wheel while you almost pee in your pants as you roll backwards just a few inches. My "regular" wired throttle on my old 97 Camry never did this. You just get used to it. But I have to admit that overall throttle response is pretty good once the car is rolling. It's pulling away from a dead stop that annoys me.

Other than one incident that has not reoccurred as described in the following thread, I have had no issues with my 05 AT response times.

The only fix to that there for that one is to trade the car off. Drive by wire.

Can you provide some examples of when your AT seems to lag? What speed are you driving when you accelerate? During downhill, flat and/or uphill situations? What model year is your car and when did this start happening?

There is an issue where the automatic (havent had it happen to mine in months and months) but it feels like its starting in 2nd gear or something....is this what is happening...or is it just the general lag you get from throttle command to response.

The latter...my wife drives the TL and she complains about it as well. It occurs when you start off from a full stop. Apply gas, slight delay, then the car moves. The few times I've driven it, I've also noticed it. It's kind of irritating. We should've gotten a MT, but she drives bumper to bumper traffic and couldn't see herself shifting a zillions times on the way home.

If it is reproducible, I would take it to the dealership for repair. Obviously, the lag could be the drive-by-wire switch or whatever needed to be replaced.

I forget the car model, but in the latest Road & Track, one writer mentioned that the car's electronic throttle was instantaneous. So I'm guessing there are cars out there (3rd Gen Acura TL???) that are not instantaneous.

I'm thinking it's normal as others have complained about the same thing. It's only a fraction of a second though. Not enough to bring it in, but enough that you notice it. If it gets worse which so far it hasn't, we'll bring it in to Acura.
