anyone experience, premature timing belt failure?
NOT TRYING TO BRING ANYONE BAD LUCK!!!
Because I drive mine for a living, 150-200mi per day
I had a 80K belt fail at 75K (different car)
I just hit 100K in my 3G TL, your responses will determine if I get the service now or wait a month or two.

Don't recall seeing any reports for premature failure on a 3G. At least 2 folks have gone to around 133K before changing. I wouldn't stress over it and just change it when the MID tells you to (when you get a "4" on the MID).

if the timing belt change is at the 105k mark, then I would get it changed now as opposed to next month.
#4
That is the "recommended" service. He was saying people have gone to that amount. Just like expiration dates on food, its always on the safer side and I wouldn't see a problem with him car going to 110-120k but I would get it done at 80k, but thats just me.

I'm not at the 105 mark yet. I just hit 100K. I'll be at 105 in about a month. I will have it changed by 105K. not willing to push my luck

Actually, the "recommended" service is when the MID indicates so with a "4" and "Service due now". There is no official mileage associated with a timing belt change for 3G TLs, although most people are getting the "service due now" around 105-110K miles.

Yeah, theoretically, the MID is supposed to simplify and "idiot" proof some/most of the maintenance schedule. A nice orange message pops up with a number which the owner checks for in the manual and then takes in for service. That's how it's supposed to work....

If you're doing mostly freeway miles, 105K is pretty conservative. You're spending the majority of your time at 2,000rpm and 70mph vs city with a higher average rpm and lower average mph. I would be willing to bet a mostly highway driven engine has turned half the number of revolutions as a city driven engine. There's also the time issue which is nearly as important as mileage.

I have just over 101K, and the warning just came on, A14 was the message. A = oil change, 1 = tire rotation, and 4 = TB. I got the car at 70K, I 've driven it 65% H/way miles and mine came up early.

Edit: now that I think about it, as the car approaches 105K, I wonder if the MID matches the "4" interval with when the next "A"/"B" interval is due? In the past, what was your approximate mileage between oil change messages? How many miles since your last oil change? This may explain why you are getting the message at 101K.

You have an 06 which is only 4 years old. I changed mine at 113k and mine is a 04. I think you'll be fine for at least another 20k miles. Just to be on the safe side you could do it at 110K. I would bet that you could get over 150k plus on the belt but that wouldn't be worth the risk.

Well, at this point it's not yet due, correct? The message says "service due soon"? You still have probably have a few thousand miles before you get the "service due now" message, not that it really makes any difference. And again, it's all MID based, not mileage. Perhaps the previous owner had a different driving style which determined when the message appeared.

anywho, the Acura dealer quoted me $1375 for timing belt / water pump replacement. out of curiousity i called a Honda dealer, and for the same service, they quoted me $675....HUGE markup at Acura for the same Honda parts :P

I was under the assumption that 2007 Acura is equipped with a timing chain and not a belt . Hence not required to replace.
I owned a 2007 Accord 4 cyl and it was equipped with a timing chain...
However the waterpump needs to be changed and changing the timing belt/chain with the waterpump is more econimical ...
Please correct me if I am wrong

hey guys since we are on the topic, what are all the parts needed for a timing belt service.
I got a water pump, timing belt, 2 pulleys and drive belt. What else do I need? In some threads there is a mention of a tensioner and it some there isn't, now I am confused.
Also, what is the estimated time on valve adjustment, I got quoted 500$ for 5 hours of labor, just for valve adjustment. Is that too much?

^^ myron I have those part #'s for everything you need, if you need them. I just did my TB Saturday. The hardest part on adjusting the valves is getting the rear cover off, not sure about time. 5 hours sounds like a bit too much IMO.

So you think it's bullshit that they want 500$ for valve adjustment? I have to call the dealership and ask them for a quote still. If they do it for the same money, then I'd rather take it there. But

I haven't had it towed yet, so no official diagnosis, but I think my belt just went in the driveway - talk about luck. You want premature? I have 46k miles on my 2006.
