Anyone elses climate control not know WTF to do once it's "not hot but not cold" out?

It's that time of year again, where it's comfortable outside, not hot but not cold either. Well, my climate control doesn't know WTF to do when it gets like this, and it pisses me off.

First of all, the HVAC system in this car I'm just not a fan of.

1. I have to set it between 59 and 62 in the summer to not burn up. In all my other cars I left it at 72 and NEVER touched it...you know, the point of auto climate control.

2. The A/C high fan speed is PATHETIC(!!!!!!!!!!), barely HALF of what it is in virtually EVERY OTHER CAR I'VE EVER BEEN IN in my entire life! It was almost a deal breaker for me, but since I've added tint the car isn't too hot in the summer anymore. Maybe changing the in-cabin filter will help, but I suck at DIY and I have other, more important things to spend >$100 on. I really, really hope that's the cause. It's really bad.

3. It's not true dual climate control, it's just there for show. There is virtually NO difference between the two sides. A friend of mine (who's a bitch) bitched how the air was still cold on her side when I jacked hers up past 80 and left mine where it was.

4. And finally, it's this shit that drives me crazy. Every Spring and Fall it starts getting confused, and it's stupid. I'd say it's about 68 degrees outside tonight. My normal 62 (that I have to leave it on which is BS) is too cold, and when I increase it, it starts blowing more cold air, to where I have to jack it up past 80 for heat (when I don't even want heat, just a comfortable blend). Then, it gets hot, so upon turning it down, I get more too-cold air. It just seems to get completely confused when the ambient temp is the same as the temp you want, and I'm wondering why. It's not rocket science.

This really wouldn't be that big of a deal normally, but I can't even get it to do what I want when I adjust it all manually! I just get frustrated and curse it.

I want the interface, fan speed, and simplicity (and the fact that the fucking thing worked!) of my old Infiniti I35 back, thanks.

Does anyone else have this same problem?

somethings wrong with your car a/c. Climate control works flawlessly and is the best Ive experienced. Not to mention my nav makes it even better with solar positioning.....

This.

And yes changing the cabin air filter will help air flow. Has it EVER been changed?

I leave it at 68 and I'm fine with it. I think the fan is kind of weak though.
and no it doesn't cost anywhere near $100. Just $20 and 5 minutes of your time.

Mine works as advertised and expected. I only use the AUTO setting when I want to use my A/C, which is not all of the time. Otherwise I use manual settings with no A/C and outside air flow. As for the AUTO mode, I find my '04 and my '05 TL's to have the best I have owned so far. This mode keeps the cabin quite comfortable and with an even temperature. Better than my '02 Nissan Altima SE's AUTO mode setting.

And yes, as has been suggested, replace your cabin air filter. It is a PITA job but something I do every year.

Changing the cabin filter won't fix the real issuse at hand. It sounds to me you have either a bad climate control unit or there is a problem with the HVAC box like a blend door issuse. I would have the dealership use their scan tool and go through the Air condition part to run some tests and scan for codes if there is any. I don't know if there is an A/C recalibrate
"re-learn" proceedure, but if there is they should run that test.

Even if there was a ton of shit on your cabin air filter it would only restrict air flow by a very small amount. Lastly, if it's been 3 years since the last A/C service then put that on the list of things for the dealership to do.

No problems here. Everything works spot on. I don't think I have ever put the fan speed past 3. Like the others stated something must not be working properly. Dual climate works great, wifey is always on a different temp than me and never a complaint. (she would complain if it wasn't doing the job lol)

I've only had my TL a few weeks, but thus far the climate control has worked flawlessly, and seems way better than the CC in my old Lexus RX300.

Thanks for all the responses. Is there any way to run a test yourself? Like a combo of buttons you push for an error code?

I honestly have no idea if the filter's ever been changed.

Everything works fine; when I cycle through everything I can hear all the motors working. Maybe I'll check the inside thermostat.

And other than the slow fan speed, (and the fact that I keep it at 62) usually it works just fine. It just seems to get confused when the outside temp is what you also want in the car. Maybe there's dust in my thermostat sensor.

But yeah, anyone know if there's any way to run a diagnostics check yourself?

this summer i was very angry when i got in my car and still sweat until about 5 minutes later. this A/C system is total crap. but it also doesnt help that i live in one of the hottest and most humid city in texas aka houston.

my temp is always set at LO and the fan is basically all the way up. thats the only way i can get some cold air.

I still disagree, I'm in Dallas Texas so you know our temps were hovering 100+ degrees and I have had not 1 problem with ac remaining cool and steady. Within minutes its blowing cold air. Combined total TL in/were in my family are 3 +1 the one my girlfriend owns. My mom owns a 2002, Ive owned a 2002 and now own a 2004 and my girlfriend owns a 2005. Not a single issue in Texas heat.

Neither have I, it's just that the fan speed is half the strength of other cars. The actual air that's coming out is freezing cold. It's that, and the fact that the auto function doesn't know what to do when it's pleasant outside.

I think, as others have said, that you have a problem with your unit. I have an o4 TL and live in the Mid-West where it is 90 in the summer and below freezing often in the winter. I leave mine set on 70, but sometimes have to bump it up or down for the passenger. Works fine, except that I sometimes bump the fan speed higher for more air flow. (Voice Command "Fan Speed 7". I would have your unit checked out, if you dislike it that much!!

Maybe it's you....Just a thought. Maybe it's the black paint on your car attracting more heat thus, causing your system to work harder.

Out of all my cars I never had a problem with Auto,

My '98 Accord Auto climate control was flawless
My 3000GT auto climate control works perfect
The TL is great. And when it's really hot outside they are all smart enough to recirculate the air until the cabin is cooled off.

Now my wife's 06 Lexus works ok, but not the best because sometimes at 78 degrees it's still blowing cold air and I'm freezing.

Up here in Alaska, we have many days during the summer that are right in the zone you are talking about (60 to 70). I simply leave mine in Auto with the AC off. If it's a hot day, I'll just hit the Auto button when I start the car (which turns the AC on) to get the cool air flowing. When I'm down the road from my destination, I hit the AC button to turn it off again. But most of the time I simply run Auto with the AC off so the compressor doesn't keep kicking on for no reason.

If the heat bothers you (like the cold bothers us up here), try an auto starter. That way, by the time you get to your car, the AC has had a chance to cool everything down.

Spring and Fall are tweener times and some days its hot and some its cool. Full AUTO mode drives me nuts. It constantly switches between AC and heat to maintain the selected temp.

Most of time I run the system in AUTO with voice command to A/C off. I find this does a decent job of balancing fan speed and temperature. Still does the sun position sensor thing with air flow increased on the side of the car with more sun.

While we have AUTO climate control-we have manually controlled vents. The vents control how much outside air is mixed in with the "conditioned" air. Exception is RECIRC mode when all outside air mix is blocked. In the fall and early spring I set the knobs to the middle position and find that the system does a more predicatable mix. I set to half way between middle and fully closed for the winter. The Mrs knows to adjust her vent position to her liking as often as she likes. I don't even mess with her side of the car.

I change cabin air filter every 15000 miles. I used the DIY the first time. I buy the after market filters with the charcoal recommended by the DIY. They are like $15 shipped (after the usual rebate for buying 2). Acura charges about $25 for the simple paper element.

If you want the temp to be the same as outside open the windows or just go fan on ac off. Running the system on auto all the time has to waste gas and increase wear on the car, since you are running the hvac all the time.
