Another 3G wiper motor failure
Another 3G wiper motor failure
Hi..
Well the other day after entering I95 with a torrential downpour, my wipers stopped working half way on the windsheild!
Sounds like the other complaints from..
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=wiper+motor
I took apart all the plastic covers to get to the wiper motor connector and with a voltmeter found that there was 12VDC when the wiper switch was activated.
The local Acura dealer (DevanAcura in Norwalk CT) had the part in stock. It seemed like Scott there kinda knew that there was a problem with this and checked for TSBs/etc but couldn't find anything for a N/C replacement.
Anyway, after payingr $147.41 and installing the wiper motor ass'y myself -- it worked!
I will follow the above links and will enter a complaint with the NHTA for a F'd failure of the wiper motor. My TL is out of warentee and has 55,000 miles.
Hey, also a plus from installing a new wiper motor assy is that you can adjust the wiper arm posistion. I drove around for two days without the wiper arms attached and really liked the "better" view out the windhield without them!
When I installed the new wiper motor/linkage assy I installed the wiper arms lower so that they weren't obsuring the view out over the hood.
Anybody do this??
I hate seeing the wipers.. one reason I chose the TL ove the TSX.
Big rainstorm predicted for tomorrow.. gotta go to the TL rather to the poor Miata.
Well did a few coats of RainX incase the wipers crapped out again..

It sure does seem like something is definitely wrong with the motor design or seals on some or all of the 3GTL. Do you plan on doing an autopsy on yours to see if it is the same corrosion (water damage) as others have seen ? Are these suckers even serialized or have a date stamp on them ?
I wouldn't be all that bent about having to replace a ~$150 part on a 3yr+ car but it's the kind of failure and how many we have heard about that I'm concerned about. Wiper failures seem pretty serious to me. Certainly tough to "live with until you can get to fixing it".

Add it to the list...another Motor Failure here
After taking the car in for diagnosis it was determined that it was indeed a Wiper Motor Failure. Beware if you have a 3G TL as this seems to be a trend. I have an 04' just for the records.
