So my car started having trouble starting earlier this week. Took it in and had the battery tested and it had a bad cell. Had the battery replaced. Haven't driven the car in 4 days because I was out of town. I started it today to let it cool down(116 degrees outside) and when I got in it to leave I noticed my VSA lights, Seatbelt light, and Airbag light were on. I turned the car off and now it wont start. I noticed after I had the battery replaced that there was a whine coming from under the hood. It wasn't the PS Pump because it didnt get louder when you turned the wheel and I just replaced the oring not long ago. I didn't think anything about it but when I took it to have the battery replaced I noticed the Air Bag light was on or flashing. If I reved the engine a little it would turn off. Any Help before I have it towed to be fixed?

 

Its possible, did you get any oil or fluids into the alternator? I spilled oil into mine once and killed it....

Dont call a tow truck, its easy to swap.
I changed the alternator in a bank parking lot one time. Its very easy.

 

OP... This is posted in the wrong forum... This is the 4th gen forum.... you may get more responses from the 3rd gen forum since you've got an 04 TL..

Update... Tried to take the car to have the alternator tested today... The car will not stay running unless it is connected to to another vehicle with jumper cables... FML! I can also smell the scent of a burning electrical system

 

My mechanic was able to pick my car up from my house today since I'm working 14 hour days. He replaced the alternator and all is good. It didn't cost me near as much as I was afraid of either. $150 for the alternator and $60 for the install.

 

How has your car been?
I noticed a whining noise that goes with engine speed and doesn't appear to be my ps pump either on my 08 tl. Driving home tonight the airbag light came on. I shut the car off at a light and restarted and it went away. I was wondering if alternator and these two things are related. Naturally I turned 50k miles 2 weeks ago so no free dealer support.

 

After replacing my alternator everything was fine. My airbag light kept coming on till I would reach more than 1k rpm

 

Can't tell if my alternator or not. Going to change the ps o ring first since. $1 and easy to do. Seat belt latch has 15yr 150mile warranty I have feeling is culprit of my airbag light and very common when I searched. Gas cap warning lit up today too. Wtf. Car is 200 miles out of warranty. In 50k in once for ac o ring. Now seems car can't keep it's $hit together.
