Air Bubbles in Power Steering Reservoir

My car is making a Humming noise coming from the PS pump so I checked the fluid and there were bubbles in the reservoir which means, as I found on another thread, that I have an air leak somewhere. I went to the dealership and bought a new O-Ring to replace. Upon replacement, the old o-ring was not damaged. Put the new one in anyway and the same problem persists. The pump is making the noise b/c the fluid going through is filled with air. Where else can this leak be coming from? Could it be one of the hoses? If so, how do I know which hose and how to detect it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What's the temp where you are? IIRC, air has gotten inside your P/S pump and damaged the bearings. With the temp being chilly out, the seals around the bearings do not expand therefore allowing air to circulate inside the pump and causing the humming noise.

Something like that lol That's why you don't hear it in the summer time.

Im in the Mid Atlantic...40ish at night..50 during the day. Am I going to need another pump, or can the bearings be changed out? I am not all that car savvy

You have a leak on the suction side somewhere. When temps are cold, you have more vacuum on the suction side and it pulls more air in. I would start at the reservior and carefully check every hose, clamp, and o-ring.

The o-ring you replaced, was it on the plastic piece that the large rubber hose from the reservior clamps to on one side and the other goes into the pump?

Does it go away after it warms up?

This is the O-ring I replaced today: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...steering+whine

I drove the car around for about 15 minutes after replacing the ring and also turned the wheel both ways a number of times to try to work out the extra air if I happened to seal it with the ring. Are there other rings other than the one from the link I posted above?

That's the correct one.

I would still do a very thorough visual on the line from the reservior to the pump. If the hose clamp is positioned too far toward the end of the hose or too far back it can cause a leak.

It's possible you have a bad pump but I wouldn't give up yet. The fact that the fluid is aerated points to air getting in the system on the suction side.

If all else fails, pull the o-ring again to make sure it wasn't cut or damaged during install. My old one looked fine too but the rubber hardens over time and will no longer seal.

I'm not sure how long the fluid will hold the air. I did mine when it was hot and no longer making the noise. The first test (cold) was the next morning which was a huge difference, completely quiet.

Mine has started to do the exact same thing recently, I'm actually at the dealer getting my P/S recall down so maybe they will fix it at the same time (even by not knowing)

Just like to say John Eagle Acura of Houston provided me with excellence service and finished the P/S recall in 2 hours. The bubbles and whining noise is now gone!

if there are no leaks, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to get the air bubbles out....

if there are leaks, turning the steering wheel lock to lock will introduce new air bubbles.
