Acura Service Recommendation (Need help)
Acura Service Recommendation (Need help)
I had my 05 acura tl in for service today. One of the items they recommended was that I replace the stabilizer link rods on both sides. The actual recommendation is: Play in L/RR Stabilizer link rod, recommend replacing both sides.
My questions are what is the stabilizer link rod? Is it necessary to replace them? The estimate is $369.51 for this service, but after spending over $1200 today already I am not sure I want to do this, unless necessary.
Any advice or help on the subject is greatly appreciated.

From Rockauto.com
MOOG Part # K90342 Rear Right $18.12
MOOG Part # K90343 Rear Left $18.77
Labor to replace both shouldn't be more than an hour or so, for BOTH sides combined.

if you're talking end links which attach to your rear sway (stabilizer) bar...easy DIY if you're handy with tools. the parts themselves are about $20 a piece...labor like DMZ said less than an hour (book time is listed as an hour BTW). you can go with OEM links or MOOG links.
nothing that will compromise your ride necessarily...you might have a little extra body roll or squirreliness when you make turns or even a rattle or cluck. if you doubt them...crawl under your car grab the end link and pull on it.

Thanks for the info on this. It wasn't that I was doubting them, I just thought the price was high and wondered if it was necessary. I will likely do it myself then. The dealership also suggested spark plug replacement as part of the water pump timing belt done today, however they wanted over $376 for the spark plug job. I will do those myself.

I've been getting emails from the dealership since last October advising it was recommended at 184,000km or 7 years. So I broke and did the water pump and timing today.

OP- upgrade your RSB buy some OEM end links or the moogs whichever....DIY....save lots of money. bottomline...the dealer wants too much just to change your endlinks.

There are a lot of DIY's and FAQ's on this page: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/
Although this instruction set is for the full Shock/Spring replacement, the instructions for the End-Links are within that instruction set. There are a couple of things you'll want to do right.

One is step #4 on page 18-43 of the SM. The other is steps 3 & 4 on page 18-46.
Sometimes the end-links can be rusted to the point that you can't get them out the 'proper' way. In which case a SawAll is your new best friend.

the rear sway bar....reduces body roll in turns and cornering (in short). there are A LOT of threads discussing the nuanaces of the RSB and FSB (which is a PITA to swap so most people don't bother with the front, involves dropping the subframe).
search "progress rear sway bar" and perhaps add "I hate cars" <==one of our resident gurus...read up...add a new suspension...holy COW! i'll let you read and learn. if you like performance handling....this is a nice inexpensive mod.
